Even if it means giving the President everything he wants?

It means behaving like an adult. Shutting down the government is not part of the political process. It is the equivalent of taking away the ball because you don't like the score.

+100. Cruz shutting down the government was pure playground,2nd grade material.

Actually, the American people felt denying old WWII veterans access to the monument in their honor was the epitome of playground games. More so, they considered it vindictive and cruel.

Shows how silly the American people are. What do they/we think "shutdown" means?

Giving the President what he wants? What planet are you living on? We didn't get single payer, that's what we wanted. Instead, the President compromised and we instead got a watered down version of 1990s GOP healthcare reform (individual mandate)

He knew there was NOTHING he could do, short of full-on illegal action, to get the American people to accept single-payer. That wasn't a compromise.

I think if Obama and the Democrats had known, from the outset, that the Republicans were all negotiating in bad faith and would never vote for anything Obama proposed, regardless of compromise, we would have a very different ACA. Probably more like single payer.

And there's the game right there. Sad, isn't it, that progressives think this way?

Cruz goes out of his way to try and protect the American people from a law that turned out to be, indeed, a lie, and the response from progressives is to hurt old veterans.

You are forgetting that Obama and the democrats work for the American people, who did not want single payer, not did they want this law. Cruz did not forget that.

That is asinine and you are clueless.

What kind of an idiot would load a bunch of 80-something WWII vets with prostates the size of grapefruit on a bus to sit on a bus for a couple of hours only to find when they arrive at their destination that THERE ARE NO OPEN BATHROOMS AT THE MONUMENTS BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT IS SHUT DOWN. Not to mention, nobody to empty trash or pick up (and prior to DC government stepping in there were rats and wildlife scattering trash from the overflowing bins)... Or the fact that there had been a spate of vandalism attempts on the memorials just a few months prior (oh, fine, let's just let people have unfettered access to trash them) Not to mention all of the other upkeep that keeps these places worthwhile visiting. Yet dipshits like you evidently thought there is no expense, no resources needed, that monuments and memorials somehow magically keep themselves up. You have demonstrated you have no clue about how anything works.

NOWHERE in my post did I insult vets.

But you seem to want to persist in insulting everyone's intelligence.

Again, where do you think the vets were going to pee once they arrived after sitting on a bus for several hours?

Seems pretty clear that even the basics elude you.

Bolded for your viewing pleasure. Do you know these men? Do you know this to be true?

There are NO bathrooms in DC? Really? The buses often have bathrooms as well. As do the planes that fly them, hence the 'flight' in 'honor flight'.

Do you really think the kind folk that take these veterans to see a monument erected in their honor would not have figured this out?

Cruz did not protect anyone and in fact the shutdown ended up costing America billions, for nothing. Even Rand Paul admitted that. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2014/aug/07/rand-paul/rand-paul-rightly-says-government-shutdown-was-mor/

It is well past time for the last of you clueless Tea Party idiots to finally accept the truth that everyone else has, of what a stupid and juvenile move the shutdown was, and that it was bad for the American people.

I have known and worked with many WWII vets. Obviously more than you ever have. Seriously, you must be an IDIOT to think you can just run an entire busload of old men around for hours and hours without access to a bathroom.

Look, you are just talking here but I was *there* at the memorials during the shutdown. I saw it all unfold, firsthand, for myself. The lack of bathrooms, services and amenities is why they curbed the honor flights during the shutdown. One bus bathroom can't handle it all. Have you even been to the Memorials? Sure doesn't seem like it. Do you actually even realize how far it is from the memorials to anything else? It's not as though you can just walk to a business next door.

Lack of amenities??

Conservatives have truly gone soft.

Thank your classy president for that. And for the other VA crisis. Money for illegals, but not our vets.

I've been to the memorials. I seem to remember facilities on the Mall. As I said, these groups are charitable organizations and are good at accommodating such things.

You've also just proven how bad ruling exclusively from the top is.
