Are you living on your $300K + salary, or are you living more modestly?

your marginal tax rate is 33%.

We make 150k combined and our marginal tax rate is 28% and I'm not complaining.

I think she meant "have to go to the government" and was suggesting
that op's dh look in house so the pay cut isn't as large.

Yes, that's what I meant, sorry for the typo! Lots of great in house jobs out there, especially for 7-10 years experience like OP's husband. And my DH works 9-6, no weekends, and comes to every school event, unless there is something big going on at work which is only 1-2 times a year.

Yes, I would love to know this imaginary company where a 32 yo makes that in house.

Leave him for a partner

only like 10% of biglaw associates make partner, so this was very predictable. Most turn out just fine.

Another option might be joining the military as a JAG. Steady pay, free housing, good benefits and lots of experience.

And he would take an enormous salary cut (much more than going govt or in-house). And may have to leave the area, which OP is hesitant to do.

Wow, these are some great options. I think OP is not understanding the concept of making concessions, exploring Plan B, growing up and putting on her big girl panties, sucking it up, et al.........

Op sounds like a spoiled child who wants everything her way. Life is not like that.

Geez - why are you being such a jerk? I didn't get any if that from what OP has posted so far. I don't think the PP you're responding to was the OP (but I fully agree with what they wrote. The JAG idea doesn't make any sense. At least not without exploring other options that are much better paying and commensurate with OP's DH experience.

PP meant why does OP's husband HAVE to go to the government, not that half their income goes to the government.

Ignore her. She is our "Wow" poster, who denigrates posters while spewing cliches.
