No one is asking Israel to apologize for defending its people. The current "ask" is to stop positioning itself as a victim while behaving as an aggressor and an occupier.

This is very naive about history. Arab nationalism (and Turkish nationalism) is becoming and would have become Muslim nationalism even if Zionism never existed. Greeks, Armenians, Arab Christians, Jews....all of these have been driven out with more or less violence by Muslims for more than 100 years. The Arabs kicked the Jews out of Iraq, Egypt and Syria (places where there were Jews even before there were Arabs!). The Jews created a state of their own and kicked out the Arabs there. Everyone wants to be free and have their own state. The question is: where will they draw the border and get over it? If Germany and Poland and Russia could do it, if India and Pakistan could do it, so can Jews and Palestinians (Ukraine isn't there yet....) Those people who think that Zionism will just go away because it is some kind of European imperialism are delusional. Israel is there to stay and the Muslim world, the Palestinians included will have to get used to it. Or there will be war for 100 more years.

THAT'S the difference. So even if US citizens are against taking sides, their money forces them to.

I have heard - again and again - from Jewish friends who travel there yearly and who send their children there that Israel is safe. What parent would spend half a year's worth of tuition to send his/her graduating senior off to a war zone if Israel were not safe?

I don't understand your argument. You say that bc Israel uses US funds to build it's defense system, we Americans HAVE to take a stand one way or the other? Have you met your fellow taxpayers? We don't know shit about what our money is goingn toward. Did you realize at the time that the US was actually supporting sadam Hussein before we decided he was enemy #1? Or that Egypt, which has committee enormous human rights abuses, was the second largest recipient of US $$ after Israel? What does one thing have to do with the other?

I can write an entire post listing the authoritarian regimes the US has conveniently supported. I get your point, which only supports what I've been saying!

How is Israel any better than Saudi Arabia? The Saudis (those in charge) have trampled upon human rights. And Israel hasn't? But there is a very vocal and very influential crew in the US who will continue to paint Israel as the victim that must be saved.
