MCPS GT Acceptance Letters

DS score on Quantitive was the same as Median.

Here was the issue- and I knew this going into the process: Verbal was only 125. And, looking back on his reports cards and probably teacher recommendations he is smart yet lazy and a bit unmotivated, especially in writing. I was hoping the HGC would push him to do his best. But, if there is a lot of writing and language based assignments then staying in his home school might be best. He really hates to write.

DS will not not be sad...in fact he will be happy not to do the extra work. He would much rather film with his video camera and concentrate on computer hacking.

Thanks for letting me share- best of luck.

I would not worry at all about this kid's future. Folks with those skills rule the world these days. I bet he fits the profile of most tech moguls.

Not accepted.

Median 136/135/126. DC's scores: 132/114/117.

I knew it was a long shot but we applied because DC is a talented writer and would have greatly benefited from that aspect of the program.

I'm a little bummed out, but at least DC can stay with friends and a younger sibling in our home school which is good. And I don't have to figure out how to make that transportation fit into our schedule!

Congrats to all who got in. Hopefully DC won't be too upset tomorrow at learning who did get accepted. Please encourage your accepted kids to be considerate of those who did not.

Wish people would put the program when they post the median scores.

Has anyone heard from Cold Spring?

Can anyone please clarify what happens to the wait listed child? Do they have a chance?

I believe a few children are accepted off the waitlist, by lottery. I suppose you are notified when some accepted children decide not to go, so it might be as late as the start of the school year.

A boy in my DD's class (CCES) left after 2nd quarter. I think they went to the wait list, but it was so late in the year, no one joined the class. Makes me feel bad for kids who were waiting for a spot. Don't give up hope, they do go to the wait list if/when kids don't want their spot.

Yes, kids do get accepted off the wait list. Had one child who was offered spot a few years ago. We toured with about 5 other families who were also offered spots off wait list.

I believe it's more of a wait pool, that they pick someone who's the best fit for the opening (boy/girl, strengths, whatever) This is why you might want to appeal if you're wait listed - it might make your application float to the top if you can find a way of arguing that your kid's needs aren't met in the home school.
