Are the scores comparable to the scoring of the subsections of the WISC test? Meaning is a 135 verbal on MCPS's test roughly equivalent to a 135 in the verbal portion of the WISC?

How do you know they upped the top score?

Well I know top is 160 because my child got all correct on one of the sections and got a 160. I heard the old top was 150 but I do not know that for sure.

Yeah I remember the top score was 150 a couple of years ago when ds took it. So maybe that is why the mean scores are so much higher than they were two years ago as a PP noted for 2011.

The full score for each section was 150 last year. My child got full scores on two sections.

The Raven tests are bullshit. My kid always test poorly on those (but MSA's, MAP R/M) through the roof. My kids was always THE Top kid in HGC, and straight A's at magnet middle. The tests are NOT An indication for all kids how they will do. The HS magnet test does not use the stupid Raven. Look Raven up, many people think it is worthless.

But Raven is used for middle school magnet admission and your child obviously did well enough to get admitted.

The Raven tests are bullshit. My kid always test poorly on those (but MSA's, MAP R/M) through the roof. My kids was always THE Top kid in HGC, and straight A's at magnet middle. The tests are NOT An indication for all kids how they will do. The HS magnet test does not use the stupid Raven. Look Raven up, many people think it is worthless.

What's distinguishing about straight As if a fifth to a quarter of the middle school class has straight As? I bet not many of these folk can hit the Raven out of the park. Perhaps the Raven is tougher than making straight As in MCPS?

Not the PP, but straight As at a magnet middle and super high MAP scores indicate a really smart kid.

Not the PP, but straight As at a magnet middle and super high MAP scores indicate a really smart kid.

+1. It is REALLY tough to get straight As at the magnet middle school (Eastern).
