DC May have a high walkability score but on bike trails you will get beaten by gangs of youths

We arm the syrian opposition with weapons but deny our citizens the right to defend themselves. Ironic.

completely insane, no?

oh no, sweets

There is ALWAYS a reason an attack occurs.

No one becomes a hardened criminal at 12 or 14 w/o reason. There is abuse. There is neglect. There is quite a bit of rage resulting from being mistreated.

no reason? ha!

Work with the kids I teach and THEN tell me there's no reason to hate. They hate. And I'm damn lucky that this white gal has no problems in the classroom . . . b/c I am not the norm.

Actually, yes. If a minor beat up a family member or friends (which has happened), I would be perfectly fine correctly identifying that person as a youth and not printing their name or identifying details in a newspaper. Because those are not particularly effective ways of dealing with the problem at hand.

I feel for the victim of this crime. It's hard to understand senseless violence, no matter where you come from or what kind of guilt you have. It wouldn't make me feel better to know I'd been targeted for my race. It would be logical that someone who is a victim of crime in a low income neighborhood would wonder why his attackers did not take his expensive gear or the money in his pocket. Most attackers would, so the absence of theft is confusing. Everyone wants to feel like there's a reason when something horrible occurs. Sometimes there isn't one. The search for that reason doesn't mean it's liberal guilt and the lack of printing identifying details doesn't mean that the Post is engaging in some kind of racial conspiracy.

OK, we've heard the lament. But what is the solution?

But it's time to be scared, folks.

If you saw firsthand what happens in a high school - how low these kids are b/c of neglect, how needy and how angry they are - you'd be very scared. And I'm sure it's enough of a scare to turn many liberals into Mitt-loving conservatives.

No. In your hood kids just go into school and randomly shoot everyone within eyesight of their ARs

So there are bike trails in the suburbs that police urge you to avoid because of roving bands of hooligans?

People get robbed with frequency in Georgetown and Foggy Bottom. A guy was beaten almost to death in Capitol Hill. Chandra Levy died in Rock Creek Park. Read this ticker from the crime section in the Post - plenty of degenerates in VA and MD too. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime

Get over it - you're a pussy with an axe to grind about the city. If you don't want to live here, great. But what point are you trying to make exactly by starting this thread? That you are a douchebag who hates the city? Great, we get it. Now shut up already.

Amazing that such a high priced city would have such terrible crime. From a quick glance of the local news I didn't see any brutal attacks for MD (outside of PG) or VA meaning places that cost the same in MD and VA don't have these issues.

You really are a hopeless idiot. Crime has been falling in DC for YEARS, as it has in every major city. One terrible incident is not indicative of a crime wave. How does it feel to be such a moron?

Don't be so obtuse.

Crime is falling because it is being exported to PG county.

The person who is wishing that the market take care of the problem will get their wish. The process has been slow, but thug by thug, they are being pushed into PG.

I know lots of People moving to pg, what happens after that
