Can you be friends with a smoker mom?

My best friend is a smoker and I love her dearly and my daughter will consider her an aunt. We don't live in the same city and only see each other once a year. But, when we do she either smokes away from me or recently moved to e-cigarettes. (I have asthma and one of my triggers is cigarette smoke).

I encourage her to give up her habit for the sake of her child and her own health, but I couldn't imagine not being friends with her because she smoked.
