NP here. It doesn't matter to me if the OP is married or not, but I wanted to ask those claiming that getting married "kills a relationship": How so? In what way?
So far (only been married for 5 years but together for 15-- started dating as teenagers). I feel like marriage improves the relationship if anything-- it feels kind of nice.

The fact remains that OP may choose to say that "others are creating standards for her," but one of these days I predict that she will grow up and recognize that the standards have been around for a lot longer than she has, or will be, and that they were put in place to serve humankind in creating a society. She and he are not going to change that, no matter how liberated they like to think they are.

I think everyone knows the definition!!! It's just stupid that you brought it up at all.

No, what's "stupid" (to use my 7 year old's favorite word) is that you can't see the difference between a technical, legal term and condition that OP and partner-boy have chosen to inflict upon their kids, and the crass meaning that it has come to hold in modern vernacular.
