If you could spend about 1k on handbag

Check out Reed Krakoff -- I think the editor bag is $1100, but the boxer bag is nice too.

Also Alexander Wang, Marni, Mulberry (honestly, I would get a Polly Pushlock in a heartbeat if I had the money -- it's $1500, but a Bayswater will run you $1050 and a Lily $750),

Rachel Nasvik (a little less pricey, but my Patricia bag has held up amazing well), Kooba, Hayden-Harnett ... all good brands, too.

I personally would not go the LV route, but that's because $1k won't get you a decent-size Epi bag.

Thank you!! Best advice I have received in a long time. Great ideas and brands I was unaware of.

You should be a personal shopper. Damn good taste.

I only own an LV epi and yes, it does stay dry in the rain. The leather has some type of protective coat on it.

How do you know the op didn't have 2k or 3k extra. Decided to donate 1k or 2k to charity and take the remaining 1k for her handbag? Your argument is never-ending because no matter how much op gives to charity, she could always give more. So for all you know she could've had 10k and given all but 1k to charity, but she's still morally offensive because she's spending that last thousand on a handbag for herself? Ridiculous.
