I am so appalled -- Have a heart, for goodness sake! I've never seen such a collection of cheap skates in all my life gathered all in one place, copping every excuse under the sun and trying to give justification for being the stinking tightwads they are. Give me a break. I'm not well off, but I would never not give a decent tip to these people. It's back-breaking hard work (labor that will ultimately result in orthopedic issues) whilst most of you lazy butts sit in your offices on your tushies, but you sure do love your stuff hand-delivered all nice to you. And all of you give-nothings, get off your rear ends and go out in your car and buy your groceries yourself! Hard work and not much fun lugging all that stuff, is it! You cheapies disgust me no end! Don't bother responding. You're wasting your time -- I am so out of here! |
I agree. This thread reeks of narcissism, doesn't it? |
I am a Peapod driver. The reason we are allowed to accept tips is because it is not required of us to bring the groceries past your door. All of the convenient things we do like put it on your kitchen counter, separate cold stuff from warm, drive down your treacherous mile long dirt driveway in the snow we do for a tip. We don't make the same amount of money as ups drivers because we accept tips. Tips are about 40% of my annual pay. I never ask for tips and treat non tippers the same way I would any other customer. It gets a little annoying however when a customer wants you to pus the groceries away for them for no tip. |
I always give $10. |
I have never used the service, but this is good to know for future reference. What do you expect, percentage wise, that people tip? |
First time using peapod, my delivery is expected between 5-7pm tomorrow and I'm expecting to top 10 dollar regardless |
I absolutely agree with some of this. I am one of the former no tip posters - but that's for just the delivery to my door. If I let the driver bring the groceries into my house, into the kitchen, onto the counter, maybe even have him help me put stuff away I would tip OF COURSE. Anything else would just be rude. But for regular delivery to my doorstep I would not tip. Because that service is included in what I already paid for delivery. |
I was told by a driver that they make very good money and tipping is not expected. The drivers do not pick the items they just deliver them. |
But I do tip them anyway...
|
If it is a service job & they do a good job you tip. PERIOD! If you can't afford to tip go to the store yourself. They deserve the tip just for the convenience. |
I've been using Peapod for several years. I recently moved, and am on the 9th floor of an elevator building. The lobby, however, has two short flights of steps (one 3, one 4). I always tip $10, unless it's a particularly heavy order. Orders are between $100-$150, and for reference, the whole order fits into a granny cart. I've begun tipping on the bill up front, because I rarely see the same driver twice, and I got tired of the attitude a few exhibit. I hoped that knowing they could expect a tip would help make those 7 steps seem a little less arduous.
Last week, I had a driver come into the building, come up to my apartment, and tell me he "couldn't get into the building". After questioning him, I gave up and went down to the lobby with him to be sure he had no problem with the doors. He brought his hand truck into the lobby- three boxes- parked, and asked me how I was going to get it upstairs, because he couldn't leave the boxes! I explained that he needed to deliver to my apartment. He ultimately did, and then had to make a trip back to his truck because he hadn't brought a few items. I was his last delivery (almost 2 hours after my window ended), so I'm not sure how he missed them, but whatever. Obviously he was tired, but so was I...and chronically ill to boot. I still tipped. I hope it was his first day, and he either grows into the job, or finds something better suited. That said, most of the delivery people from Peapod are delightful, and I am very grateful the service exists! |
Driver who wrote about Why do we tip was eloquent. I have a laundry service and try to give $5 (usually on $50 order). But if short will give less and can tell it is always appreciated. Great guy always on time and for me so worth it. Thinking of trying Peapod and plan to stick with the basic $5. Again driver well said. |
The only peapod drivers in a union are the ones in the east coast, chicago, Wisconsin, and Indiana drivers don't have unions (I'm an Illinois Driver so I know this for a fact), I personally am happy with any amount and if a customer doesn't tip I really just shrug it off because for the most part there are more people that do tip than dont, the only method for the amount to tip is whatever you feel comfortable with, no Driver would ever expect you to tip a percentage and most I talk to hope to have a 5 dollar a order average which is good since we average around 18-20 stops a day, but the real question is are you a morning customer? If so then take into account that your driver has been delivering to alot of businesses and as far as Illinois goes most businesses will not tip a peapod Driver because it's viewed as the same as the guy who delivers the water jugs to them |
We are using Peapod for the first time today in Norwich CT. I have no idea what a proper tip will be even after reading some of the above posts. Of course they are paid better than a waiter would be but it's also back breaking work. We are not lazy or loaded with money. Our work isn't allowing time to shop normally. I'm guessing $5.00 will be OK considering that we will take the bags ourselves into the house. |
I tip ten dollars and out of the five times I have used Peapod they have been worth that amount once.
Always hours later, very rude, complaining at me that they are tired, stuff is missing or wrong (this is not their fault.) I only ask them to bring in water, I carry everything else from the truck. I have given up on them. I started using Amazon Fresh and so far they are amazing. I tip them eight because I ask them to leave things on the front step so far but I will go up if I do require help. Figuring out the right tip is difficult because I always feel pressured to go higher but very frequently the service just isn't there. |
