I found the place unfriendly when visiting. Didn't get a good vibe. |
What tarnish reputation? Please explain? |
What quota? what high school are you talking about? |
If you have spent any time reading about Catholic HS admissions, the high schools tend to admit a certain number from each parish school. Just to throw out some random numbers, Gonzaga may admit up to 2 from Mercy, GP up to 3, Visitation up to 3, etc. So it is inevitable that Mercy 8th graders will be admitted to these schools regardless of their test scores, grades, etc. |
| It's a pretty marginal school. Has a terrible academic reputation. Just a landing place for rich Catholics with no other options. |
You may have read that but it doesn't make it true. In our parish school the numbers vary widely every year. Sometimes it's because the gender numbers in the class make it so there are more or fewer applicants. I don't think the high schools would ever shut out a qualified applicant simply because his classmates were equally qualified. But naturally some elementary schools are stronger than others and earn more acceptances simply because of their student body. But it's probably safe to assume that the top students from all of the parish elementary schools would be accepted but high schools certainly dig deeper than just those first few when it's warranted. They do not cap. |
It is no different than most middle school student in STA go to STA. It is true about the 50 catholic elementary schools in the adw, most go to catholic HS ... Some don't. |
| The Catholic HS will admit a mediocre student from a Catholic MS over a over average student from a public. That is no secret. |
And why not? The Catholic MS is a continuing source of students for them. They should and will admit students to keep that pipeline open. The Catholic high school has a long-standing relationship with these Catholic MS's and a reservoir of trust has been built up over the years which allows the HS to understand (even informally) just what they might be getting in a student and school citizen. That relationship rarely exists with the PS's. The Catholic MS parents have demonstrated a commitment to Catholic education by sending their children to the Parish school. The HS's see the value of that and are supportive. Additionally, the Catholic HS can feel more secure that their school isn't just one of a number of schools that are being considered. The Catholic high schools, even the best them' serves a community not just those with the highest test scores regardless of who they are and where they come from. |

Depends on the school. |
Msgr. Enzler is the CEO of Catholic Charities now. That is a huge promotion actually. |
|
| The PP is taking about a different Father John, not Msgr. Enzler. |
