Michigan is the only midwestern flagship that is comparable to UVA or UNC. |
|
If one is not in-state for any one of those schools, and they do not get into any privates in the T20 nor WASP lacs, then yes Uva UCB UNC Mich are all worth it OOS, as is GT if it is engineering or CS.
|
DC didn’t apply to private/ivy or LACS. UM was first choice. Worked out. Know others the same from here and NYC and CA. |
UMich is the top public university in the country |
You are ignorant to say the least if you consider UVA and UNC regional flagships. Lift your head out of the sand. |
what delusion. Many kids are turning down so called "T20" "privates" to attend those schools. They are usually harder to get into OOS than those "T20" Privates as well. Too funny. |
lol |
Yup, same. UMich was my kid’s first choice. Wanted excellent academics at a big, fun school with good sports. Few privates offer that. As a public school kid also liked the feel of Michigan as a public school—bustling, socioeconomically diverse. |
Okay? Then? |
So ignorant they’ve never heard of the ranking of top public universities in America by USNWR: Cal, UCLA, Michigan and UNC and UVA tied for fourth. USNWR has a separate ranking service for “regional” schools. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public?myCollege=national-universities&_sort=myCollege&_sortDirection=asc |
No OOS kid that got into a T20 private would ever choose UVA or UNC. It’s just not happening. These are fine schools for in state schools. They are even OK for OOS who only get into much lower ranked schools that do not have strength in their program. They are not prestigious outside their state bubbles. |
| Pay to play. These schools overcharge oos because they can. It really is that simple. |
Neither UVA nor UNC have the national heft that Michigan has. Stop trying to make Fetch happen. |
No |
Ok, new poster here and my OOS state kid chose UVA over not just one but two T20 schools and knows a handful of other kids like her. You do realize that the entire universe does not share your brain, Right? |
