ACC is second tier for sports. If SEC isn’t an option I’d look at BIG TEN Oregon and Washington for top sports and WOKE coast.

A BIPOC NY’er would fit in at MD over WA or OR.

Visit UMCP. I think it’s your best bet.

My very liberal DC loved Miami- yes it’s in the south and yes, there are definitely conservative students but it’s actually pretty balanced, the football team made it to the championship this year. There’s a lot of Greek life and Miami is a terrific city. Its worth checking out.

Is your daughter ok with Texas? SMU and TCU?

The Big Ten schools would like to have a word. My daughter had a similar focus for a sporty school with spirit but wasn’t as heavy on Greek Life. USC, UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State, and UMD was on the list. If they were bigger into Greek Life, Penn State would have made the list They didn’t want to go as far as Wisconsin, short of it being CA, otherwise that would have been on the list. For schools outside of the Big Ten, Syracuse was on their list.

If the liberal “no south” kids actually visited southern schools they would find that many of these schools are balanced. They have created some vision in their head that everyone in the South are uneducated, MAGA idiots.

It's not always about the schools, it's the politics of the state (looking at FL and TX for example but am sire there are more, that would let a woman die before inducing an abortion for ectopic pregnancies or non-viable pregnancies where a woman has started miscarrying but there is somehow still a hearbeat)

Holy Cross offers an accounting major but not a business major. In terms of a U.S. News top-25 LAC, both of these majors can be found at the University of Richmond. Unfortunately, Richmond would not appear to match the OP's geographical restrictions.

Holy Cross does place well. WalletHub ranked them in top 10 of all SLACs. Good school for full pay families. Babson might be another but no sports scene.

I agree. I didn’t think of UMD initially, but it’s a great suggestion for this student and what they’re looking for.

Agree. I'm from CA and attended Cal and it definitely has a lot of similarities to UC Schools. Big school with school spirit and with something for everyone. Progressive.

Asking with sincerity- if liberal my DD attends a southern school will the guys be interested? Do they really intend to marry a progressive and move to the DMV? Not that college is about meeting your spouse, but it happens and it can be great when it happens. I just wonder if the dating pool of guys interested in a real relationship with a liberal non-southern girl is too small.

Anonymous wrote:Daughter would like a USC kinda school. Good academics with sports, parties, greek life.

She doesn't want south or conservative. in DCUM parlance, we're very woke. She has good academics but USC is a tough admit. a place like Syracuse would be a safety, possibly with merit. She has Michigan and Wisconsin and some UCs on her list. Cornell is possible, but she wants to study business and she won't get into Dyson. She'd get into Tulane, but is put off by male/female lopsided nature. We'll look at Indiana. I tried to talk her into BC but we toured and she's not down for Catholic. (we're also not white and it seemed very white on tour).

Coming from NYC. Full pay

Any ideas?

How about Vandy although a harder admit than either of the USCs. Nashville is more mid-south than true south and more liberal than TN (with Vandy more liberal than Nashville as a whole). Tons of fun. Great academics. Rapidly improving sports. No shortage of party opportunities.

She said “no South.” Agree that Nashville is as blue as they come but NYC types who insist on No South imagine that every single resident is MTG or Marsha Blackburn. Plus, they’ll face barriers to all the many abortions they’re anticipating in college

Interesting that the poster complains about stereotyping the South while crudely stereotyping NYC before doing so

yep. and it's okay to say you dont want the south
