Iced out for not being liberal

Here’s the problem… there isn’t just one policy. I’d have to write 500 pages to explain all the different policies.

There’s asylum seekers. There are student visas. There are DACA. There are different rules for Cubans. There’s H1B1.

It’s not a genuine question because it’s not based in any intellectual understanding of the situation.

What’s crazy is there was an immigration policy that was created by a extremely conservative, republican under the Biden administration that everybody agreed to, but Trump told Republicans to vote against it at the last minute, because if there isn’t a problem, he was afraid he wouldn’t get elected.

Genuine question how do you feel about that?

So if you found out, your friend was a rapist you would still hang out with them? If you found out, they raped little girls and boys you would still hang out with them?

Is that the type of diversity you have in your friendships?

A fake one like this fake post.

You think those type of organizations do not exist? Google it. Why do you need to know what one it is? So you can be judge and jury?

In my real life (I am not the OP), I know someone with this exact dilemma. She dates someone who works for one of these places and it's her dirty dark secret she knows she'd be shunned. She's liberal herself.

What's the problem with naming this mythical "center right" organization that doesn't support Trump? It doesn't out anyone. So what's the issue? Because it doesn't exist.

AEI is not solidly pro-trump or anti-trump. Mixed bag.

Lincoln Project fits that description.

Nonsense. They support Trump, so they can't be the org OP refers to. She claims a center-right organization that doesn't support Trump exists, and that her BF works there.

Lincoln Project begged people to vote for Kamala. I don't think they can be considered "center right".
Regardless, if her BF worked for Lincoln Project, OP would have said so.

She didn't name the org, so, she's a troll.

If that's your preference, this place probably isn't a good long term fit for you. Honestly, you'd probably be better off telling people you're an independent than just refusing to discuss your leanings, which will cause people to speculate and assume that you are MAGA but refuse to admit it.

No, everyone knows "independent" is a code word for "trump supporter who is ashamed of herself."

No. This is the problem. Choose a party and when that party starts voting for things you do not agree with, then you STOP SUPPORTING it. Don't choose a party because your parents did, or your boyfriend works there. Use that thing between your ears and make informed, adult decisions.

Or get iced out for playing naive.

Well said. Also Obama was nicknamed the deporter-in-chief at one point. Maintaining due process and humane procedures is critical obviously, as is properly qualified and trained ICE agents.

I wish they would. While I worry a lot about Trump and more importantly the movement he's created persisting and blowing up American values and democracy I also worry about this portion of the population's slavish group think, insane rigidity, and inability to stop obsessing over the latest news cycle's drama and think strategically about how to get out of this mess. They are dragging us all down. Many examples on this thread.

"THEY are dragging us all down"?

GTFO

Yes, people who can't have a productive or intelligent conversation about what to do next are dragging us down. Who just want to live in a constant state of name calling and anger and social media swirl. Getting off on it, in fact. Dismissing half the national population as stupid idiots who are banished forever is where these people are stuck and I wish they'd shut the hell up and get out of the way. People talk about you behind your back and think you're awful and insane. People who agree with you on most issues, by the way. Not that you care. This is broad you, not directed at one PP.

No, we can't have productive conversations because MAGA don't work off of facts/reality and struggle to do anything in good faith.

Don't blame this shit show on the people who are trying to call out injustices and trying to make change.

Blame it on the people who put the orange shit stain in the white house.

So much this.

If you told me a year and a half ago that the Target c-suite worships the devil, or that COVID-19 was part of a lab leak, or that college students protesting is somehow inhibiting free speech, then I’m not really interested in your opinion.

Part of the reason we are now fully into dictatorship is because people “choose a party” in the first place. The democrats are part of this.

OP, I suspect you’re a troll, but if you align yourself with a party who is responsible for inhumane views and the destruction of our entire democracy then you deserve to be shunned. If more Germans had shunned nazi sympathizers then maybe WWII wouldn’t have happened. It’s not hyperbole anymore. We are effed and it’s because of people like you.

I am a very conservative Catholic, and I have tried really hard to have reasonable, intelligent conversations with people that I love and respect about why they would vote for Trump, and I never hear anything that sounds reasonable or that seems in line with Catholic social teachings.

I was horrified to see people who I have seen devote their time and money to caring for and protecting the old, the poor, and the vulnerable coming to mass without masks in the midst of COVID.
All that I can make of it is that people, even good people, get stuck in their own bubbles and consume so much propaganda and misinformation that they honestly believe they are doing the right thing.

I have not heard a reasonable explanation, based in reality, on why people would vote republican or condone these policies that hurt vulnerable people and families.

What was your family's path to legal status in this country?

H1B and then naturalization.

Leftists find themselves in the position of "everyone who gets in is allowed to stay." If that's what they believe, well thats a very extreme viewpoint but they should say it explicitly.

If that's actually not what they believe, then they need to formulate a coherent policy and then they will actually have some standing to oppose ICE as it is working.

That immigration policy was insane and not a talking point anyone should take seriously.

He also had more people choose to move back to Mexico then people from Mexico moved to the United States because of our foreign relations and support of that country.
