Here’s the problem… there isn’t just one policy. I’d have to write 500 pages to explain all the different policies.

There’s asylum seekers. There are student visas. There are DACA. There are different rules for Cubans. There’s H1B1.

It’s not a genuine question because it’s not based in any intellectual understanding of the situation.

What’s crazy is there was an immigration policy that was created by a extremely conservative, republican under the Biden administration that everybody agreed to, but Trump told Republicans to vote against it at the last minute, because if there isn’t a problem, he was afraid he wouldn’t get elected.

Genuine question how do you feel about that?

Leftists find themselves in the position of "everyone who gets in is allowed to stay." If that's what they believe, well thats a very extreme viewpoint but they should say it explicitly.

If that's actually not what they believe, then they need to formulate a coherent policy and then they will actually have some standing to oppose ICE as it is working.

No, that’s not what “leftists” believe otherwise we wouldn’t have voted for Obama.

If you’re actually educate yourself on the subject, you’ll know that bush said it’s a shame for us to spend all this money educating young children only to deport them to a country. They’ve never lived in.

Biden had a very conservative Republican create an immigration policy and all the Democrats voted for it. So explain to me how you feel about the Republicans refusing to vote for the policy they helped create but then voted again because Trump wanted there to be a problem with immigration.

Can you give me a coherent reason why you support that?

What do you mean that ICE is working?

What I see is doctors, nurses, mothers and fathers being deported. I’m not hearing stories of people who feel that they have benefitted from these deportations. But I’m willing to listen. If there are positives and negatives to deportations, I’m willing to hear the positives.

What was your family's path to legal status in this country?

H1B and then naturalization.

Well, I disagree with the H1B program so I think they should be deported.

Right. They never want to "own the libs" or anything. They're very tolerant of pronoun choices and brands that value inclusivity in order to appeal to broader swaths of buyers, for example. And they're very patient with No Kings and anti-ICE protestors and never EVER paint them with a nasty brush. That never happens.

A decent portion of the country is cheering on ICE. If you have seen anything they have done and are not horrified, no I am not going to tolerate your "difference of opinion." That is the difference. Conservatives may "tolerate" my view that we should pay more in taxes to be able to provide more government services, but that is not the same as asking me to tolerate the obliteration of some basic human rights for several groups of people.

Well said. Also Obama was nicknamed the deporter-in-chief at one point. Maintaining due process and humane procedures is critical obviously, as is properly qualified and trained ICE agents.

He also had more people choose to move back to Mexico then people from Mexico moved to the United States because of our foreign relations and support of that country.

Isn’t this most leftist views on how to prevent asylum seekers and immigration? To support the countries they are coming from and prevent people from needing asylum?

Is it? I don't think it is. And I think the opportunity cost of its failure is going to be extremely damaging to the country.

I mean, ICE is in the middle of the Midwest right now. And they are here in the city I live in (Cincinnati) and housed across the street from my kids’ UMC fancy suburban school. I don’t hear anyone supporting them. Even when our kids are kept in school late or miss field trips because there is an arrest going on outside, and everyone is talking about it, I don’t hear any cheering.
Where do you live?

Your insistence on continuing to use the word "leftist" is truly obnoxious. But then again, being obnoxious is a calling card for you people.

Historically, it’s Republicans who have better foreign policy. Because it keeps our troops safe and prevents wars and terrorist attacks.

But yes, Obama was a very republican president, he was extremely conservative. He was not leftist.

The problem is that many people look at a person and label them and then think everything they do. Is that label.

People don’t understand conservative what that means. That was a very conservative move.

By "a decent portion" you mean "not anywhere near close to half."

Ok, you have the right to that opinion! However, it is the law. And the H1B program has ballooned in the last two decades and is being abused. The process for changing that is policy and it may indeed be changed.

If you want to open up the immigration policy -- to have visas for day laborers, for example -- the process for that is to change the policy. Get people elected to want those things. they will be elected if they appeal to a majority of voters.

I'm a lifelong democrat but many of my leftist friends have completely lost their minds and forgotten how democracy works. If you want to change laws, you elect representatives who can do that.

Sorry for the confusion. I’m a different poster, a leftist, and a believer that the best way to prevent asylum seekers is to support the countries they are coming from so that people do not need to seek asylum.

How is that a conservative move? It’s what the democrats have been saying since the 80’s. (At least)
