Iced out for not being liberal

Anonymous
What shifted so quickly the last 5 years? I’m a younger millennial and have gotten excluded both at work and in my personal life for “being MAGA”, even though I never talk about politics with anyone. FWIW I’m not leftist but not MAGA either, not registered with either party. My BF does work for a center right org that isn’t super involved with Trump anything

Is wanting to keep your political beliefs to yourself passe in NWDC social circles?

good - Now is not the time to be apolitical. It says something.

What center right org "isn't super involved with Trump" ?

People get to choose their friends and political orientation can be a deal breaker. The first amendment doesn't apply to friendships.

LOL like this is new.
I'm 39 years old. 10 years ago in 2016 there was a conversation at work about this and I said nothing. I got confronted an hour later by MY SUPERVISOR who said "you were awfully quiet at lunch today. You're a Trump supporter aren't you?"
In 2020 a coworker was fired for refusing to take a BLM photo with the department.
I'm a hospital nurse so zero reason to talk about this at work and a job where people are desperately needed.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I’ve never thought twice about who my friends vote for so surprised so many people feel this way. Always thought it was important for people to have a diverse group of friends

This isn’t new for left wingers - been the case for 15 years or so.

Right wingers (especially the educated) are much more tolerant of viewpoint diversity.

Hang out with your BF's friends.

Human rights are not political but MAGA have made them so. It's disgusting frankly. So, yes, your "political" leanings matter greatly when dating especially in the DC area.

I agree with this.

Any educated conservatives I know feel they have to hide their views or risk being shunned. I am liberal myself and do not follow this practice. Sorry OP. You need to hide your real views or find different friends.

There are issues that simply aren't politics for people. My sibling is gay, the long term friend who introduced me to my spouse is Trans. So for me LGBT issues aren't just politics, it's the lives of the people who mean the world to me.

Troll post. No one could be this stupid. Of course Trump supporters should be shunned by decent folk.

Please note that OP said nothing about supporting Trump either privately or publicly. Just the whiff of it is enough to get iced out. OP everyone you know is talking behind your back and looking for evidence you are a Trumper and when they can't find it they'll assume it.
