Too early to talk about Tuesday weather

Anonymous
After the last couple of winters where the prematurely called off I think they’re going to wait it out. The forecasts I’m seeing are very mixed.

Its cold enough for ice --which would be a major concern should it snow/sleet/rain.

1-2” of accumulated slush predicted with the storm beginning at 3 am.

I suspect a delay that turns into a closure.

It’s too early to lose a snow day.

In the spirit of the holidays, close already. Best for all. Make it up at the end of the year if there are more than 5 missed school days because of snow closures.

Lunar New Year is when many East Asian and SEA families take a day or two off. I don’t know that all are Buddhist or if it is cultural rather than religious, but they are often surprised that school is not closed.

Can you imagine how crazy things would get if each of the new 6 high school regions were also weather zones? OMG. That would be insane- upcounty would have more days off, but how about make-ups? If we are one county I think we need to have one weather announcement. Though, I would be fully in favor of the State changing the requirement mandating county school boards- our county is waaaaaaayyyy too big.

Also, special ed programs get bussed all over. Not sure how that would work.

There are also teachers who have split positions. For example, teaching French or math in HS for 2-3 periods and then teaching those same subjects at a MS in the afternoon. They get screwed over when one of their schools runs a special schedule. It would be much worse to have the HS delay while the MS opens on time.

We can only have one snow day this year without making it up.

Up county getting maybe up to an inch more like .7" grassy areas. Temps low enough to call a delay for entire county. Let families start planning now, mcps. Call it.

Nobody should be surprised that school is not closed for Lunar New Year

What? everyone just had a bunch of time off. There is 0 reason to cancel "early" for this type of storm. Could be nothing/minor inconvenience/or even a boom, but they can wait until morning to see how it pans out.

There are THREE 5 day weeks in Dec without a day off. Not even an early dismissal or late opening on Dec 8th in a majrity Latino county school district.
