Weather app is wrong

Directly from the National Weather Service for Damascus:

"Rain, possibly mixed with snow before 1pm, then a chance of rain between 1pm and 3pm. Patchy fog before 3pm. High near 38. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. "

As has been said MANY times on this forum, you can't blindly trust a weather app in situations like this. Need to go to the source or real meteorologists.

Half inch can still be very slippery!

.5 inches is not the same as 5 inches - and certainly not enough to cancel for the day with temps well above freezing

So we’re sure they cancelled all befofe care? I remember last year Global would close but KAH would be open. I came here to check if all providers got the same message. And if it’s an MCPS directive, why aren’t they the ones communicating the message?

I wonder if MCPS is leaning towards closure and that’s why they closed before care. My HS kid will be walking to the bus stop when I would drop off my ES kid at Global. So it doesn’t make sense to close.

The Northwood kids have to catch their busses even earlier due to their earlier schedule at the holding school.

KAH told us that MCPS said they could not open.

That's what Wonders told us as well. So irritating.

Besides the fact that it is perfectly possible to drive on such roads, it is also fine if a small number of people truly can't make it in. That's already something we have to live with due to causes unrelated to weather.

The problem is the bus drivers have little experience/training with icy conditions, so it makes it dangerous if even a few routes are ucy.

Buses are sufficiently heavy that they do comparatively well in slick conditions. It mostly comes down to driving slower, which doesn't require special training.

This is MCPS, where bus drivers give out citations to car drivers and then run over kids.

Don't give Taylor any ideas!

Staff might be on their way to other jobs, college classes etc.

At the same time they’re being paid by McPS parents to provide before care?

Hello, two hour delay means a shift in schedule that might not work for them.

Then the provider could cancel if they don't have the staff. In practice, though, that doesn't end up being a problem. This is just a problem of Taylor's making.

Monifa B McKnight is probably enjoying the day

Yeah I don’t get why no childcare. High school starts at 7:45 normally, so bus service/travel for those kids on a 2-hr delay is happening around 9-9:45, in some cases even earlier. Elementary childcare providers usually open at 7, right? Why couldn’t they open at 9 when ES will not open until 11:25/11:50? I’m sorry but morning childcare is a 2-hr a day job, I don’t think most people are commuting huge distances to a job that usually starts at 7am and lasts 2 hours. They would typically live somewhat close by. Usually Taylor closes childcare so that emergency crews can clear parking lots and they would prioritize high schools first and the theory is that the elementary lots wouldn’t be clear for childcare families yet. But in a case like today where 95 percent of the county is just raining, they could triage their staff and equipment to the area of the county impacted and wouldn’t need to worry about down county elementary lots or liability.

Are you clueless? Many do travel from far. Have you seen some of the rent $ in parts of Montgomery County, entitled MCPS families?!

Just because it supports your narrative doesn’t make it true.

Bar-T too. Stuff like this is literally why parents pay hundreds of dollars for before care.
