The fact that you know the student body is 24% Asian is the root of the problem itself. Who is keeping tabs on the student body demographics and why are they doing so? The student body should be made up of the most qualified applicants. Period, end of discussion. If that means the student body is 98% Asian or 2% Asian, so be it. Being "Asian" should not be a qualifying or disqualifying factor.

It's just astonishing to hear of ethnicity being something taken into consideration when people are applying for anything in 2025. What is wrong with these people?

Wtf. Do you're saying its astonishingly evil, horrible and discriminatory to merely report basic demographics??? Aside from failing to answer the question and articulate how Asians were supposedly discriminated against... You've failed massively in your faux outrage here.

I'm saying I could care less if the percentage of Asians in a college student body is zero or 100%. All I care about is ethnicity not being a factor in determining an applicant's worthiness. This is the viewpoint of someone who isn't a bigot. You should try it.

100% Asian?

You are going to hear some major MAGA complaining

Even 45 -50 will get them howling.

Why would anyone care what MAGA thinks about something that pertains to college? If Harvard is 100% Asian because the top applicants were 100% Asian, so be it. You aren't going to change what is right and what is wrong by worrying about what "MAGA" idiots might think.

Once Harvard gets to be a certain percentage Asians, Asians are not going to want to go there anymore, they will begin to see the schools that elite white students go to as the new aspiration.

That's all fine and dandy. Everyone should freely apply to any school of their choice and no applicant should be discriminated against or given preferential treatment based on irrelevant personal identity characteristics. We can all agree on this. Good night.

You are impressive. Both MAGA losers and left wing liberals keep trying to derail your argument and throw out red herrings and ignore your very true statements, - for very different reasons - and you don’t fall for it. You speak the truth. Of course colleges should be selecting students on merit alone. This shouldn’t even be a question.

You are impressed with someone who agree with you--how novel.

+1 First of all, this article isn’t about voting for Trump and Harris, it’s about the NYC mayoral election. But most importantly, you all are still bragging about how many people of each subgroup voted for Trump when they’ve all backed away really quickly. Trump has reversed every single gain MAGA made less than a year later. Not every poll separates out Chinese Americans FFS, but his approval numbers among young voters, Asian Americans, Blacks, and Latinos are abysmal. Independents view him less favorably now than they did Biden AFTER his disastrous debate. Biden was 28/60 with independent voters in that Post/ABC poll, and Trump is now 30/69 with indies.

Hey look some real data came along to support what I was saying.

Chinese Americans who immigrated here and who actually lived under communism are turning into hardcore Trump supporters. They are horrified at the messaging in NY wrt all the free stuff being promised, laxity on crime, and increasing taxes to make a bigger state. I didn't realize how badly Kamala had tanked with Chinese Americans. What a disaster.

In terms of elections if you're a Democrat, it's not a disaster. There are not that many Chinese Americans and many are in solidly blue states.

The point is that Kamala tanked by 20 frigging percentage points with Chinese Americans compared to the prior presidential election. Sure, Chinese Americans are a small cohort, but it is a canary in the coal mine for how things are going for the Dems. Losing 20 percentage points is massive. Latinos are a massive group and are shifting right too. Why did Trump get so many Latino votes?

Because he promised lower grocery prices and instead he deported their friends and neighbors. I bet they won’t make that mistake again.

I don’t doubt that Latinos are shifting right since many of them come from countries with authoritarian leaders, which often makes them prefer “strong leaders,” and are religiously conservative. But that may change the more this administration goes after Latinos—and not just the undocumented ones—in such an unrelenting and cruel way. They’re literally being singled out for abuse by this administration, more so than any other group in this country. And the polls are already starting to shift.

“Trump's approval rating among Hispanics has declined sharply to **27%** in the latest October 2025 AP-NORC poll, down from 41% in March 2025 and 48% in the 2024 election.”

If Trump and Stephen Miller keep this up, they may cause the GOP to lose Hispanic voters for a long time to come.

Meanwhile in reality instead of NYT thinkpieces, the GOP’s vote margin fell by over 40% among Asian American voters.

Trans support and anti family rhetoric. No Latino voters want to hear that stuff. Also, many are very anti communist / socialist.

But this goes for many immigrant groups, at least the educated ones who are here legally.

He said from the start that there would be mass deportations- NOT just criminals. Undocumented people from Latin American counties make up like 80% of those here illegally. Who did they think he was going to deport if not their friends and neighbors?

The real problem are how the percentage of Asians at the top schools just keeps increasing. What can be done about this?

Weird that it's simultaneously being argued that Asians are being discriminated against by the liberal elite. Weird way to "discriminate" - bringing them into top schools and positioning them for success.

Visit the "FAFO" thread - it's full of accounts from people who voted for Trump to get rid of "bad hombres" who were then shocked to find it was their own wives, husbands, friends, employees etc who got deported.

Yes, and also no.

Asians value diversity, which is why (if Harvard were to become 100% Asian), then Asians would seek an education somewhere offering more diversity, equity, and inclusion.
