If you don't understand why a woman who encountered a strange man in the woods would be scared, you are insane. At least the bear lives there and might just be going about its business. The man is probably up to no good.

What an insight. Now do race and crime and come back to us.

A perceptive comment. PP states that she has a statistical basis for preferring the bear. (Which is objectively crazy and offensive on its face.) But if we were to apply the same logic to race, given that statistically the Black share of crime is very large relative to the Black percentage of the population, we would rightfully recoil.

Then the subsequent poster (PP again?), as if on cue, clarifies that misandry and racism are in fact quite close cousins.

We all have to live our lives based on experience/statistics and "stereotypes" come into play. I used to tell my kids to ask a mom for help (never a single man). And I choose the bear. And I hire latinos to work in my house. Sue me.

Latinx and you should hire bears.

It’s all misandry. That’s all you need to know.

The venn diagram of people who cry misandry for something like this and those who would immediately blame the woman for being raped (I mean wth was she thinking being out there alone?!") Is a circle.

Well you’ve literally engaged in illegal employment discrimination, so “sue me” seems like a reasonable response.

I’m not a man and I feel attacked by this idea. The notion that half of our population is so inherently dangerous that we would rather be with a large, dangerous wild animal is so out of line with reality that it blows my mind.

You sound like a predatory fragile ego man.

I guess it’s nice your reality is different than the vast majority of women. But that doesn’t negate the other billions of women’s’ experiences.

I am a woman and my experience is in line with most of the women I know. I even had almost exclusively male babysitters who often were black. Shocking but true.

You don’t know a single woman harassed or hurt by a man? I’m calling BS. That’s just… false.

She does. They'd just never share. No one wants to confide in the woman who has a "bros before hos" attitude.

LOL draft the complaint. I don't even interview so I am not sure who exactly the plaintiff would be.

Of course this joke is only funny because it’s a man getting raped.

It's not funny at all. Rape jokes are not and are never funny.

It’s possible to abhor sexual violence and not hate half of humanity at the same time.

Also I forgot to mention that I used to rent a house out furnished. I never said "no men," but I decorated it in a way that only women would like. It was my project and I didn't want my DH to have to get involved because some sketchy man was giving me a hard time or if I had to go into a man's living space alone.

The entire trope seems extremely misandrist.

Yes. It’s fine to say you don’t want to encounter a man in the woods, but don’t you dare say you don’t want to encounter a gang of 3 18 year old urban black girls walking down U St. then you’re racist.

I would definitely prefer to unexpectedly encounter a bear in the woods than a rowdy group of black teens/youths in Navy Yard.

Because the odds of being attacked by the black teens are much, MUCH higher than the odds of being attacked by a bear. There’s maybe a dozen bear attacks in the entire country each year. There’s sometimes that many people assaulted and/or robbed by groups of black youths in DC in just a few hours.

Does that make me racist?

And if it does make me racist, then why doesn’t “choosing the bear over a man” make a person who says that a misandrist?

Can someone explain that one?

Unless they’re about men, in prison showers, right?

+1.

I would definitely prefer to encounter a man in the woods, because I’m not confident the pistol I carry could stop a bear. But I know it will definitely stop a man.

The dark reality is that society views male victims of sexual assault as a punch line. As much as people victim-blame female victims, they don’t laugh at them. There’s a profound difference there. Don’t drop the soap.

I was the pp who posted about the man choosing the bear over prison shower. It wasn’t a joke, at all. In your rush to blame women yet again you tripped over your own feet.
