I never bring it up until someone starts bringing it up. And there are lots of them.

I was born in California, learned to ski there, and am tired of hearing people describe schools north of Maryland like they are unlivable tundra.

Bottom line, if you want great weather, go to Florida, California, and maybe Arizona.

I totally agree.

Nobody is arguing that. But it’s one thing to say who cares about weather and another thing to argue that it’s no colder in Michigan than Charlottesville. That’s total bullshit.

Which...no one did so....talk about bullsht.

I wouldn't describe Florida weather as "great". Arizona can be really extreme as well.

Why not consider staying home and going with UMD, which takes a back seat to neither of those schools, and save a LOT of cash without sacrificing prestige/opportunities?

College Park sucks

Why? They are all top public flagships.

You can quibble about specifics, but paying out of state tuition for a public flagship is not smart unless you received an attractive scholarship / financial aid package.

Most of us would rather take in-state tuition at UMD than pay out of state for UVA / Michigan.

Of course it’s considerably colder in Michigan and for longer.

What I find even more funny about this thread is that the OP has been asked more than once why she has to decide today and isn’t answering. Did she get off the waitlist of one or the other? What is going on? This is a troll bullshit post designed yet again to start a Michigan versus Virginia fight and it’s really petty.

NP. Just a guess, Michigan had a wave of waitlist acceptances last week, for which today is the deadline to enroll.

Around a 1,000 students get off the waitlist at Michigan so could be.

Stop with the BS already. You’re so annoying.

DP. The most recent one published waitlist stat was 983, though obviously every year is different.

The year before that they took almost 1,000 also. Hearing they took even more this year.

What is the timestamp of the post that says "it's no colder in Michigan than VA"?

You asked why...and that is why our kids aren't looking at UMD. College Park sucks.

OP here and relax. I haven't checked this post since last evening. Kid got off the waitlist at Michigan. He is currently committed to UVA.
I haven't read any replies following this one so please give me a minute.

No, the question was why specifically does college park suck?

This year is still in progress. Where are you hearing this?

"Why not consider staying home and going with UMD?"
"College Park sucks"

You really need an explanation on why College Park sucks? Have you been there? Have you been to any other college campus and surrounding area?

Our son is headed to UVA next year. When we asked him UVA v. every other school he originally applied to, it was always UVA. Loves the size, weather, campus, reputation, course offerings and overall "vibe". The big thing for him is that he's never talked to someone of any age who didn't love UVA. We are in-state but I don't know if his opinion would have changed, even if we'd been OOS.

I'm the OP and I want to clarify that I'm not the "College Park sucks" poster.
My DC is not attending as we live very close by and numerous family members have attended. He wanted to do his own thing and we were ok with paying for it.
