Not a single American GM, Ford, or Chrysler car in my neighborhood

FWIW, I drive the Lexus NX300.

Cool story, bro

In Great falls I have been seeing more Bentleys. Used to be Maseratis were the thing.

The richest person I ever knew personally drove a 30+ year old daily driver. They were worth probably more than anyone that's ever visited this site.

Poor and middle to lower upper income like to overspend on cars to try to flex.

Here we go with this "rich people wear tattered clothes with patches and drive beaters" BS. The richest person in the world drives a Tesla. Zuck has owned an Italian Pagani Huayra. Altman drives a McLaren F1. Rich people like nice sh** and spend money.

Bezos, before he became a bozo, drove a Honda minivan even when they were super rich.

He also owns a $500K yacht.

Interesting, I see a lot of Yukons, Escalades, Expeditions, Tahoes, Suburbans, some Toyota Sequoias. Families seem to be into large SUVs, and those are American, by and large. Maybe families are smaller where you are.

Yeah because he became super rich and it was like spending pennies for him. Howeverrr most rich but not ultra rich people who aren't strivers or rubbing it in the poors faces drive modest reliable cars for a long time.

That is not surprising because GM, Ford and Chrysler actually offer very few "cars" for sale. Ford has the Mustang and that's it. Chevy sells only the Malibu and Corvette. Chrysler/Dodge sells the Charger and that's it.

Yeah this is it. People who want a car go foreign, trucks are American, SUVs are split. I looked around my neighborhood today on a walk and there were plenty of American trucks, a few SUVs, and one old Focus.

This. Go to a Chevy lot--it's all trucks and SUVs ...American vehicle manufacturers basically specialize in these.

Yep, American manufacturers basically specialize in vehicles that are on a truck platform (which includes the biggest SUVs like those you mention). They don't really do cars.

(We do have one family who drive leased BMWs and another family with leased Mercedes.)

The extended cab Silverados and F-150s are Bro Dad family haulers.

I think everyone owned a Ford/GM/American owned car at one time and it was a lemon. I had the nicest Chrysler van but it was straight trash. The AC never worked and it had so many issues. My Honda Odysseys have never been in the shop before 100k miles. They’re well made tanks.

We currently own 2 Hondas, a Mazda and a Ford. I’m happy to say that all are reliable, even the Ford. I always hated Fords and didn’t think it was a great purchase but I had no say in that one and its surprised me over the last 10 years with its reliability. Our teen now drives it. While we love our current Hondas, we had bad luck with 2 older models. An Accord had a transmission replaced (thankfully under warranty) at under 3 years old. An Odyssey had engine mount issues that plagued it and automatic doors that repeatedly stuck. Again, the car was low enough miles to be covered by the warranty. So even though I still prefer Japanese over American, you can still get stuck with a lemon.

Strivers who live in Midland.

That said, Toyotas are so well made, why not.

I live in Langley Forest in McLean. Lots of BMWs, Mercedes, Teslas, Volvos. But also lots of Escalades and Yukons. Tons of Porsches. Not many Lexus. Have never seen a Jaguar in the neighborhood. Wranglers very common. Broncos, too.

We drive a Chrysler Pacifica that is a plug in hybrid and live in N Arlington. We needed a large vehicle for carpooling and actually care about the environment, so SUVs are out. Even the Honda and Toyota hybrid SUVs get crappy milage, as Toyota hasn't improved its hybrid technology since it launched the Prius.

We only put gas in the Pacifica about twice a year for road trips. Around town it runs on battery power.

We live in bethesda and same for the Chrysler. I think it’s made in Canada though, not US. Many of the not US brands are actually making cars in the South now though….there’s not a great correlation between brand and where stuff is actually made now and most cars are made with parts from all over.

My trust fund college friend drove a car so basic it didn't even have a heater. Now that is cheap.

People lie about having money. Ask yourself why you know he or she had a trust fund?
