Student in custody. And was there a weapon on kid when kid was taken into custody?

The school will never tell you. Unless a reporter reports it. And won’t tell you if the kid is back at school either.

So keep students at home until any type of detection machines are in place? Wow.

And whether kid is repeated offender. Wow

And parents helped locate kid??

And parents bought or gave kid the weapon?

This is at a way higher level than the PTSA. Sadly, it will take people dying for the BOE and MCPS to act.

And a STOP to all the new construction in Bethesda. We must protest against the bid to lift the building moratorium. They can’t keep shoehorning kids into apartments and then into the schools while pretending everything is A-ok. And how the hell do they set criteria for the MPDUs and other new types of assisted housing coming? We’ve had a minimum of three incidents directly traceable to these MoCo-supported housing units.

No one stepped up, she didn't want to take on that role either.

I don't get the blaming of the PTSA, what did they have to do with any of this? I thought the explanation of the listserv moderation was pretty good.

If you think the PTSA can do a damn thing about this, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. BCC can’t even do anything. It needs to come from MCPS. All the platitudes of “we take these incidents seriously” and kids who should never step foot in BCC again, yet are in the halls the next day, are due to “we are following the MCPS code of conduct” are straight out of Central Office. I dislike Mooney quite a bit but the county is at fault for these policies. I am the opposite of a right winger but perhaps we’ve gone too far in accommodating feelings and being supportive while ignoring the need to teach kids there are consequences for their actions. Pressure needs to be applied at the county, and perhaps even state, level.

Is it Glass or Friedson who wants the new construction? The latter is to appear at the "safety meeting" next week

And let's be fking honest here, which kid is actually "learning" in those buildings when everyday they are going to school fearful of the setting in which they are supposed to be being social and learning? What about educators who know more about safety protocols then their content matter at this point. How the F can MCps sit there behind the keyboard and write crappy communications one after the other?! And they make $$ for F what??

Glad it was an airsoft gun and not a real gun. I imagine state law is much more lenient with the student since it was an airsoft gun and not a real one. Same true for MCPS Code of Conduct?

Keep in mind there is not instruction all day when there's a lockdown like this. The schedule gets thrown out of the window, and so many kids leave the school that afternoon classes that might have a shot at a few minutes' worth of learning just don't, because the teacher would have to repeat the material the next day anyway.

So we need metal detectors to reduce these irritating disruptions to daily school life. This student was spotted with his weapon in a school bathroom - he would have had the opportunity to enter with his gun if there had been metal detectors.

Perhaps we’ve gone too far in accommodating feelings and being supportive? Of course, without a question, we have gone too far. The rights of a few individuals trump the rights of the majority who just want to learn and go to school in a safe environment

It doesn't get that specific:

MCPS Regulation COE-RA, Weapons
This regulation sets forth the law prohibiting possession on MCPS property of weapons considered dangerous or deadly and establishes procedures to be followed when a violation of the law is observed. Weapons are defined as “…implements that can cause bodily harm. This includes firearms, knives, and any object used as a weapon.”
