Another lockdown at BCC (2/25)

Can school or PTSA share with school community how many students are absent (prcentage or actual number out of a total student population) after a lockdown, whether it be the next day after a lockdown or the day the person responsible for causing the lockdown is expected to return to school?

Do you mean McPS style by putting a 70-something-year-old to monitor a high traffic doorway AND asking same person to help students with their writing? Why? Just because it checks a box for MCPs to say they have a living breathing adult with a pulse as one of their security people? Why the F isn't Taylor et al on the ground assessing each and every one of the doors at each and every one of the MCP high schools? Security was what families said is the # 1 concern. Do your job new dude or leave your post.

Well, to be fair, what you're pointing out is really Chief Jones's job. But if Jones isn't doing it, Dr. Taylor should roll up his sleeves and make sure it's done.

What makes ya’ll believe this hasn’t already been done? Have ya’ll even bothered to look at the current proposed budget for next year where there is funding for additional security? Have ya’ll even bothered to listen to any of the budget discussions? It’s like ya’ll live in some fantasy land where money and sane willing people rain down.

Do you think PTSA has access to daily school absentee data? Also, need I remind you that the ‘P’ in PTSA stands for Parents. You are welcome to request this info from the school administration or Central Office or enter a FOIA request.

Do you think PTSA has access to daily school absentee data? Also, need I remind you that the ‘P’ in PTSA stands for Parents. You are welcome to request this info from the school administration or Central Office or enter a FOIA request.

Calm down. Did anyone say the PTSA does have that data? can PTA share if they can get that data from school?

Apparently they sent a follow up letter letting families know of a debrief meeting the staff had with mcps and mcpd. They never send such a letter but maybe they felt they needed to ("damage" control, staff are coming forward??)) after hearing about it via their sources reading this site, or parents asking about it. There has been no official mention of involved persons from recent incidents but there have been many rumors floating unfortunately. So unless someone comes forward to complain here or via another way, they will stay silent. Shameful. Families have a right to know what happened post incidents.

I’m sorry, as a person who has volunteered in many ways with the schools and PTA for years, I’ve never seen some of these parents show up to anything. How would I even begin to find out what families in the community “need help” if I have no relationship with the parents? I have helped the children in MANY direct and indirect ways for years. I’m not an expert in social work or a medical professional, so I’m not sure exactly how I would convince a parent I don’t know to supervise or inspire or discipline their child better so they know not to bring a weapon to school!! Who am I to insert myself into their situation I know nothing about? You say talk to my kids. My kids report many of the students with the deepest behavior challenges are not, in fact, members of our local community, they’ve been catapulted in from elsewhere after they had severe disciplinary issues in their own local communities. The schools know which kids are powder kegs. They know which kids repeatedly cause disturbances. This is not about parents not helping neighbors in need. This is about children with serious issues or trauma who need a different setting, support and supervision other than a large gen ed public environment.

with this attitude, no wonder you are so defensive. No wonder you are in the situation you have constructed for yourself.

Keep on trolling. Surely you can share all you’ve done to help other families.

There are many ways to support the BCC community and its families and the first one is probably to stop whining and add unnecessary work for administrators and teachers to deal with complainers like you. Nothing about this is trolling.

There is NO virtual program so what virtual program are you proposing?

OPTG is an option. It's an asynchronous way that MCPS allows students to primarily get credit recovery and retake courses. But it can also be used for original credit as well.

This is what I want to know as well. Apparently this thug was in the mix at the park the previous week. So he comes back the following week and shows someone some weapon in a bathroom? And his parent had to help police locate and arrest him?

In another place and time, he would have been suspended after the park incident.

How have we allowed a thug to hold this much power over 2400+ students, the faculty and staff?
