What does this mean?

Shelter in place: locked in classrooms, but lights on, teachers can continue to teach, kids can talk and eat.

Lockdown is the highest threat level, when a shooter is expected to start shooting at any moment: locked in classroom, lights out, complete silence, everyone in storage room or under desk is not storage room.

my kid, with a bunch of other kids, ran out of the school as soon as they heard about the lockdown.

They actually had time to make it out?

Was it during transition to next period?

Call came in during the same class period as last week's lockdown, my kid is in the same storage room! Brought her bag with her so she can have lunch.

And a flashlight while in a dark closet? DP.

Kids had phone lights. When it comes to food, DD can eat in the dark no problem

They don't teach, usually, because that's how it goes:
- Kids, do you want to continue with our Spanish presentations?
- NO!
- OK, then.

So the kid is not inside the school building now? They are looking for him/her in community?? Was it same kid they let back in school from last week's incident?

Hard disagree. This would have done nothing about last week's lockdown (which was due to a shooting incident that occurred near but not on school property). Depending on the type of threat it would do nothing about today's. But it would normalize security theater and invasions of privacy for our kids. No thank you.
