Tuckahoe Boots Machine

And not that different than when Tuckahoe kicked Sea Devils out for Machine, which happened in a similarly shady way as Tuckahoe had approached York to fill the space, York and Tuckahoe had a verbal agreement in place, then Machine found out and underbid it all. Karma for ya!

She was called by the Tuckahoe board a few years back asking for her recommendation for a head coach at Tuckahoe but she refused to respond or call back. She had the chance to place a Machine coach there (or at least keep a good relationship with the board) but she refused.

Paris spent years acting as if the contract and pool location was something she deserved and they could never change. Sometimes you need to look in the mirror on what you could have done better.

And for what it’s worth Machine got its start at York recruiting kids from the practice Dan was coaching in Herndon (while drawing a paycheck from York). All’s fair in pools and swim coaching. For any haters out there - point out the lie in anything I have said….Ill wait

So if this is true and the board doesn’t like Paris why didn’t they previously solicit RFPs? If they were financially savvy they would have realized they have pool in a desirable location and could auction space to the high bidder and receive money for capital improvements years ago. Doesn’t seem like they are all that financially responsible.

Yeah, I see your point but not sure you can hold this board responsible for decisions made over the last 20 years. At our pool, we have significant turnover every few years. Reading through this thread, I don’t see any wrongdoing honestly. Neither Machine nor Tuckahoe did anything wrong or negligent and I imagine Machine will find another site within a few miles to accommmodsye their swimmers. 6 months seems plenty of time to figure it out.

Even more insane then that over 20 yrs with lots of board members filtering through not one of them thought of trying to get more money/RFPs until now.

So they make the fiscally responsible choice and get criticized for that also? Got it.

That’s up for debate. I’d need to see the RFPs they were presented. From their email it didn’t sound like it was solely based on the most financially beneficial offer.

Except there are aren’t a lot of options.

Don't a bunch of board members have current or former Machine swimmers? For Machine NOT to have this in the bag surely says something about the competitiveness of their bid. That would have been the obvious easy button for all. I would assume the Board has clear responsibilities to the club it serves.

If you aren’t a Tuckahoe member why do you care what their Board decided and if you think it was by the book?

They have no responsibility to you…they are responsible to their membership (the people who pay the dues). If you are a Tuckahoe member and aren’t happy then go to the Board and voice your concern. Or better yet, volunteer. Online it looks like their Board is made up of volunteers, like most local pools. If you want change get involved and stop being a complainer from the bench!

Most times people are doing the best they can. The constant complaining and “I’m a victim” attitude shows a lot about the people commenting on here.

For the upteenth time, Tuckahoe does not recruit. We have a 5+ year wait list. Sorry to disappoint.

Another Tuckahoe member here and I can confirm. 5 year waiting list. I have friends on it.

There is not some back door recruiting operation that lets people become members. There is a list, you pay a deposit, and wait for slots to open.

Not sure why people continue these false rumors!

Maybe he’s just awesome and knows a lot about swimming, running teams, and getting results. Or maybe he’s not, but he’s clearly doing something right if the board trusted him with the contract.

Based on the letter at the start of the string, this was a board decision. A board established by bylaws that has the power to make the decision.

Seems like communication could be an issue.

Has Torey even formally informed York he is leaving?

Dear York Families,

We are writing to inform you of an email that has been sent to the Tuckahoe membership about Coach T starting a new team next year at Tuckahoe.

We wanted to let you know that we are aware of the situation and know many of you have questions and concerns about this.
It is our intention to remain focused on what has always been our priority for over 40 years and that is your children. We expect practices and coaches to be in place for the remainder of the season without interruption to your swimmers. Right now we want them to feel focused and excited for the championship season coming up; PV Champs Meets, March Madness, our team travel meets to St Petersburg FL as well as our social activities like bowling and Senior Retreat.
We are here to help you answer any questions that you might have and encourage you to reach out to Coach M

Or they handle it like adults in a professional manner.

"Today I notified Machine Aquatics and Swim Farm of the Club’s decision. The existing Associate Member Agreement with Machine Aquatics continues to be in effect and will be operative until the expiration of the contract in summer 2025. A new multi-year contract with Hydra Aquatics will begin this August."

Was the RFP a multi-year solicitation? Was Tuck just renewing and old contract with Mach very year in years past? Did they review annually? Why did they a do a 1 year with Mach? and Multiyear with new club?
