Forget about telework for now--worry about our jobs

What's illegal about firing them? They are presidential appointees?

30 days notice to Senate not provided

Biden did too.

Without the legally required 30 days notice?

Exactly, this is the issue. The law that renders it illegal without such 30 day notice to both houses of congress is 5 USC 403(b)(2). I don't believe that provision was in effect until 2022, but it is now.

The law has no teeth. Sure those IGs can sue for $. But there is no penalty for Trump and any POTUS for noncompliance.

What a mess.

The Federal workforce is around one percent of the economy, and firing one percent of them doesn't move the needle at all.

An economist could argue that this will be good for the economy--freeing up skilled workers to work on more productive things in the private sector (see, for example, Argentina).

The work the federal government do influence the economy too. No one to do the job will affect the economy.

If you’re a Tech bro and donated heavily to Trump and have strong ties to the paramilitaries, there’s nothing to worry about. You should have prepared.

DEI jobs were fabricated by bidens orders so it's no surprise it can go away

Trump is establishing dominance, and it’s beautiful.

If you’re on record as DEI or Democrat, you’re going to go through some things .

Is Peace Corps canceled yet? Americorps?

I’m a moderate liberal fed employee and I agree with this. When my agency started creating DEI positions in 2021, I assumed they would go away in the next GOP administration, which I assumed would be DeSantis. That is why I’m not convinced that the DEI cuts help to predict any larger cuts to the federal workforce. Sure, there may be huge cuts later this year, but DEI was the lowest hanging fruit.

What waste of money. Why not keep them working?

Trump is a money waster.

No. He prevented the agency from reclassifying their work. If they were hired exclusively for DEI, they are gone.

Trump himself said people are getting fired and “they’re gone.”

+100000 the panic is stupid. They are getting paid NOT to work and find another job. I'm sure there will be very decent severance packages too.

Let’s bookmark this and see if they actually get severance packages.

New memo came out saying that now agencies must move to terminate DEI employees. So much for admin leave. It lasted two days and then the directive changed.

You enjoy being dominated? A little TMI. But ok.
