The message is "all women, no matter how powerful, want to be under the control of a man." I would be much more interested in this film if the power dynamic was flipped, and Nicole was the one in control. Sort of like the book "The idea of You", how the woman in that age gap relationship is GENUINELY in control and for that reason it seemed transgressive (the book only, not the movie, I haven't seen that). This just seems to me like rinse and repeat of the same gender roles we're always fed by Hollywood

yeah and the camera use was also obsessively about her body/hair/looks.
then we get a greasy sleazy looking intern, like women viewers don't deserve to see real good looking actors.

I tried to explain it to someone as an amalgam of wannabe soft-porn, blathering commentary about women and power, fetish exploration, and occasional drips of thriller - all while inanely to highlight the importance of family and true love.

Plus, it flat-out ripped off scenes and plot lines from "9 1/2 weeks."

I'd much rather go back and look at a young, handsome Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger than this schlock.

I didn't find Mickey Rourke or Kim Basinger hot at all.

My boyfriend thought that movie was very educational. That's one of the reasons I dumped him. Ice cubes belong in drinks.

100% This is so overplayed.

100% I randomly watched it and was so disappointed. Like, why can't a woman just be successful? They had to make her really insecure and hate herself enough to let an intern treat her like sh%t. Such boring drivel and I'm disappointed NK took on the role.

Money. And being in a sexy role with a younger man.

Has Nicole Kidman had a face lift?

+1

I finally watched it. Various things didn’t make sense to me until that board member propositioned her at the end. Things like why a college intern looked 30 yos and was tattooed up w a chain. Or went full bore insubordination right out of the gate. Or automatically knew her kinks.

Seems like between her staffer and the board member comments she’d done something similar before and was set up with the fake intern who was told to seduce her, and how. Or maybe she does that all the time with guys. Who knows.

Samuel had several psychotic stims and slips during the movie. Good writing or acting on that. But Nicole just kept plowing ahead.

She looks like a 57 year old with lots of money and cosmetic surgery. The fact that some think she looks young, rather than plastic, explains how plastic surgeons make so much money.

Maybe we can all drop the obsessive focus on her looks? Every post is fixated on how old/young she looks.

One of the main issues in the movie is that she is so much older than him. There is a scene of her getting botox. The issue is relevant to discussing the film.

I think pp is not referencing the film, in which the plot centers around a large age gap sexual relationship, but more around commenters digging into her looks as an actress, not as the character.

Imo the casting was good and both characters look age appropriate for the roles they are playing.

I cringed every time the NK character apologized and tried to make the plot about the age differential. No CEO would do or say that!

It was clear he was propositioning her and the game he demanded/threatened was for him to be in control. Then the staffer joined in with her ransom asks. And the BoD member.

The plot was dominant/submissive fetish.

He absolutely came off as a “hit it from the back, so you don’t get attached” incel.

Who the hell is these insane movies?

Also, I only know because I read one post above this that it’s about her being controlled by a man. Like give me a **** break.

For the people who like to watch this crap, can you explain to me what happened to you in your childhood?

Was he an MbA intern? From some red neck school?

I agree that it's disgusting. The disgust I get is because of her making out with a guy who looks like her son. I am 50, and when I see 27 year old guys, I think "that could be my kid," not "yeah I want to hit that." It's not even a "fantasy" to get with a guy that young. It's just gross.

Whole movie would have been perfect if the dude was Luigi.

Anonymous wrote:Just watched this when it dropped on streaming. I was facinated. I didn't see it as an BDSM movie, but a story of a woman always in her head and how she stumbled on a way to be fully fully present. To be genuinely alive.

The ending was thought-provoking as well. Her affair actually brought her closer and more content in her marriage. There was finally truth.

You mean where she pretends she’s her affair partner’s black dog in the hotel room? To orgasm finally.

Agree. He seemed dumber than a brick too. Could barely talk.

Anonymous wrote:I'll watch it but I don't get the dominance/submissive thing- just seems so boring and I don't 'get it'. Plus in the preview, he just seemed too young and not good looking enough for how cocky he seemed so it would be a nope from me from the beginning.

I think it was the former affair partner old board member who brought him in to the company Trojan Horse style and ordered him to get with her, and how.

If this truly happened there’d been cameras all over the office and she’d been fired.

I thought it was going to be a torrid, physical love affair with a hot younger guy. Instead it was some blockhead std guy intern sleeping with the whole office. Oh well.
