Just watched this when it dropped on streaming. I was facinated. I didn't see it as an BDSM movie, but a story of a woman always in her head and how she stumbled on a way to be fully fully present. To be genuinely alive.

The ending was thought-provoking as well. Her affair actually brought her closer and more content in her marriage. There was finally truth.

I was so looking forward to watching this movie. Then it was on hbo max starting this past weekend so I did.

As much as I could relate to a woman who’s been married for years and has trouble with the big O, and I love Nicole Kidman, and Harris Dickinson is great, I didn’t love it.

I didn’t think it was clear or understandable what her problem was exactly. It seemed like a run of the mill affair story, actually, except for the male female role reversal.

The only thing I liked were her clothes. Amazing.

Hated this movie. The writers relied on the smut of it all and should’ve added more work to the story itself. The way it all happened was unbelievable. Kidman killed in her role as usual but I wish I had saved my time watching it.

What in the fresh hell did I just watch? This movie was so weird and so bad! The intern had the personality of a wet mop/psychopath. I don’t know what was up with Nicole Kidman’s character. There was zero chemistry in my opinion. So so bizarre.

Agree. Just didn't click for me, though NK was certainly excellent.

In the eyes of the beholder. Thankfully, we still have freedom of choice in this country.

Why the hell was she acting like a dog? It was so bizarre.

It's like watching two people wearing masks of people try to communicate and kiss

I'll watch it but I don't get the dominance/submissive thing- just seems so boring and I don't 'get it'. Plus in the preview, he just seemed too young and not good looking enough for how cocky he seemed so it would be a nope from me from the beginning.

But yet you’ll watch it? You make no sense.

Watched it this weekend and was surprised by how sex-negative the film was. It’s trying to be transgressive but is just reactionary.

I think it made no sense Nicole Kidman could not communicate better with her dh sexually: this is a loving, open-minded guy. She made a lame attempt at saying what she liked, a decade+ into the relationship. She was being shy in a very immature way, which contrasted with her badass boss persona, so either one or the other identity rang false, it was not compatible. And yes, the guy was actually pretty ugly, and S&Mish stuff always seems pathetic to me. Still thought it was well-acted and directed, and I loved the music most of all.

I know that wasn't the intention and it's told through the lens of BDSM which I guess makes it edgier but still, it reminds me of something like "Taming of the Shrew." The message is "all women, no matter how powerful, want to be under the control of a man." I would be much more interested in this film if the power dynamic was flipped, and Nicole was the one in control. Sort of like the book "The idea of You", how the woman in that age gap relationship is GENUINELY in control and for that reason it seemed transgressive (the book only, not the movie, I haven't seen that). This just seems to me like rinse and repeat of the same gender roles we're always fed by Hollywood

100% This is so overplayed.

100% I randomly watched it and was so disappointed. Like, why can't a woman just be successful? They had to make her really insecure and hate herself enough to let an intern treat her like sh%t. Such boring drivel and I'm disappointed NK took on the role.

Yep. Watch to see if my instinct was wrong. Watch it to see what the hub-bub is and formulate an opinion on whether I can understand the mindset/choices of the lead.

I finally watched it and suspended my disbelief/tried to imagine he was incredibly hot and still could not 'get there' on why she would not have established good sex (or at least that she wasn't climaxing) from the beginning with her DH and why she would give up (potentially risk) not only her career but her family.

SPOILER ALERT

For a few minutes near the end I was thinking Antonio might murder the intern guy but then I guess this movie would be 'unfaithful' instead of '9.5 weeks'.

The male lead was simply annoying, not attractive and actually looked like MGK or Eminem (not my jam at all)- all angular and angry/sullen/manipulative and attention-seeking like a petulant child. Not sexy.

NK I enjoy but she MUST STOP with the injectables around her mouth/lower face/chin/jaw. She is giving cat muppet. Wish that a PP had not mentioned her earlobes. I read that response and was like wut- then I could not stop staring at her long earlobes throughout the movie. Didn't know that was a thing. BUT her body looks great and there is no way she does not have implants. She never used to have a chest, now she does and instead of being droopy- they are gravity defying- though small.

Loved her wardrobe and her posture/how she carries herself.
