What makes UGA superior from your kid’s experience? I agree UGA would normally be the top choice here. |
I can't say it's superior - just all we know and my kid loves. Has it all- amazing town, sports, academics, just love it. |

I went to Clemson so I’ll own the bias here. But it was a great college experience and the school itself has only gotten better in pretty much every way. They built a giant new section of campus for the business school. Engineering is also a big draw. I don’t see the school regressing so it’s not a bad choice as far as a school your kid can be proud to have attended.
I won’t disparage UT or South Carolina (family ties to both). But many kids that attend either of those schools would admit if asked that they would have gone to Clemson if they applied and were accepted. All that said, I would have gone to Georgia had I known. It’s a bigger Clemson in a lively town, with Atlanta not too far. I would have not graduated though. Too much distraction. |
I’m not sure that UT and South Carolina kids would prefer Clemson if they had the choice. Knoxville and Columbia are different environments so most kids at those colleges prefer an urban campus. At least you admit UGA is better. |

My kid is really loving SC. Was not on our radar until senior year. Lots of kids there from up and down the east coast. Great weather, affordable city, lots to do, strong programs. Also received merit aid so close to in state costs for us. ($40k)

| What do you all think about the Greek culture at UTK for DD if she kind of wants to go Greek but is fearful it will be too much time/social stress? |
|
I do think the Greek system is strong at all these schools, but my son is out South Carolina and is not in a fraternity, but it still has lots of friends and lots of things to do, especially with club sports.
My niece is at one of these schools also, and rush was particularly annoying and grueling, but now she’s in a house that wasn’t her first choice, but she is liking it. I think all the kids realize that the rush process and Greek processes are very flawed, but they wanna meet people and make friends so they try it out. |
| I can’t imaging choosing South Carolina over UTK or Clemson. USC is a couple tiers lower. |
Based on what? Not the business or nursing school. Not on location. Better merit aid and honors college. |
| Also US News ranks Clemson 80, UTK 109, and SC 121. Hardly a meaningful difference. |
Between DD and DS, our family has visited all three campuses. Just an opinion, but our ranking of the campuses was that USC - Columbia had the best, most beautiful campus of the three; Tennessee had the best college town vibe w/ Knoxville being a great little city w/ the campus right there in the heart of it. Clemson is the highest ranked of the three, but for whatever reason, DS and DD were not fans of the campus and location. My recommendation is to visit them all and try to visit on a school day, and then after visiting the three make a decision on best fit. They're all good schools and if your DC does well at any of these schools, they'll be set up for a great start to their career. |
a-hole |
Lots of Jewish kids at SEC schools. ZBT is fastest growing fraternity at Alabama. Auburn basketball coach (love him) held a fundraiser for Israel, lots of support. |
Go away, troll. There is no significant difference overall academically. Most kids will have a clear preference after visiting them based on major (example- SC international business #1) honors (example-SC being #1) or city/campus (example-Clem being rural). |
I don’t know about that. |
