Are you aware this was 10 years ago? Who would even remember this about a child? Maybe you need to pull back the obsession you have with them because..... |
I actually agree the constant victim narrative hurt rather than helped her. It’s boring and she comes across as weak rather than empowered, and bitter rather than moving forward in a strong, positive way. For someone who’s long been know for crafty marketing, she’s lost her touch. |
While seeking to elicit sympathy, it only reminded Brad's many friends that she's still not-so-subtly attacking him eight years after the fact and he doesn't get to see his kids anymore. Whether or not it's fair (I have no idea), they blame her. Even if that's genuinely how she felt about the process, it was not good campaign strategy. |
It's hard to be a good campaigner when you're not an extrovert. Look at Demi and Jamie Lee, they just charm everyone's pants off. Energetic, funny, just the right amount of philosophical. Good campaigning is essential, and Demi has run a flawless one. |
This is more then campaigning at this point. |
When the actual popular celebs of Hollywood are snubbed at populist SAG then you're argument falls apart. Brad nowhere near has the same power HW have. No one cares about his crap |
Of course, but everyone seems to agree Demi's campaign, including her excellent GG speech, made her a near-lock for an Oscar nom despite the movie being offputting to many. |
Nicole was in a niche art film not everyone is interested in seeing. Jolie was in a quintessential Oscar-bait role with Netflix promoting her. Very big difference. |
Do you know how much money babygirl has made??Not mention she won the NB for it? A24 isn't some small indie production. She's also popular in Hollywood which was the topic at hand. When the popular celebs are snubbed at the populist SAG then you can stop grasping for straws trying to connect Brad. 😂 |
Or you can just continue ignoring PP's valid point. Which is that an Oscar bait role like Maria, which involved challenging prep work, should have been a shoe-in for SAG. Certainly over Pamela Anderson, whose movie isn't even out yet or even Nicole, whose movie is far more niche, just out, and not widely available on Netflix for months now. Jolie's acting peers decided not to recognize her, despite a comeback narrative and role that can be considered once in a lifetime. Nicole didn't have any of that going for her. I actually agree with a PP who said Nicole works so much and is so lauded, it might have hurt her here. Just another good Nicole performance, right? There are dozens of them. |
I don't disagree that Nicole has saturated her own market. I haven't rushed to see Babygirl because I'm kind of tired of her, honestly. So, what's going on with two major Jolie snubs in a row? I think the answer is probably straightforward: her performance is liked well enough to get some noms but, unlike the others, not considered strong enough to win anything. Callas is a tough personality to capture, and plenty feel she missed the mark. I'm not ruling out campaigning and popularity as additional factors, but I do think it comes down to more mixed reviews on the performance itself. Whereas I've seen nothing but universal praise for Jean-Baptiste, Torres, Moore, Madison, Kidman, Gascon, Erivo. Especially withe the fires, will nominators watch all these art films though? Who knows. Jolie still has the advantage of a huge brand name pushed by a studio with tremendous resources in comparison to actresses like Jean-Baptiste and Torres. She seems to be a long shot at this point, but maybe. |
It wouldn't have been a shoe in for the SAG. Kristen Stewart missed for SAG too. I can tell you're just repeating headline buzzwords because you're desperate to tie Brad in this. Pamela's movie not being out yet means jackshit so there's no point in mentioning it other then grasping at straws! Nicole had the NB and Volpi Cup going for her as well. Look at how many top 10 end of the year lists Nicole hit. Don't try to downplay her achievements this season because her snub doesn't fit you're brad obsessed narrative. |
I do think the main issue with Nicole is oversaturation and that with Jolie, it's both the performance and her not playing the game too well these days. I don't think either makes it in, especially if enough voters watch the Marianne Jean-Baptise and Fernanda Torres films. Those are two stunning performances and I bet at least one makes it in. |
I didn't make it past 10 minutes of Maria, weird combo of stiff and overwrought at the same time. I have to say I'm not excited about Babygirl either, based on the trailer. Has anyone seen and can recommend? |
Yeah, this is it. |
