The Netflix movie about Maria Callas with Angelina Jolie

Not at all. It did much better then their other original oscar bait movies like Emilia Pérez that didn't enter the top 10 at all. Netflix is promoting their movies for industry votes not the general public.

Also, I don't mind Angelina Jolie. She has high-functioning autism and since my husband and son are also on the spectrum, I have a little bit of sympathy.

What?! Where did you read that? Link?

PP. I found nothing legit.

Yes, making the top 10 for a day or two with such a huge star is just what they were hoping.

She has BPD. That's not the same as autism (although there are some who say that personality disorders are related to/caused by neurodivergence).

Sounds like you have no clue what Netflix's oscar model is then. Emilia Pérez has several big stars and didn't hit the top 10. It was not a failure or dud by any means.

Sheesh I didn't even know EP was available on Netflix. That film has won far more awards than Maria, including for actors. Stinks they're not promoting it even half as much.

It should have been an easy number win because of Selena Gomez too, but they were too busy promoting that Tyson fight. That's why a lot of big Hollywood companies hate Netflix. They don't care about cinema and just want to rack wins and nominations

But they should be promoting it now, based on its awards success, before Oscar noms are in. Makes no sense. Maybe they decided Jolie was their best bet but that anything other than a nom seems unlikely right now.

I cannot stand to even look at Angelina Jolie and listening to her attempt to sing opera might kill me.

Exactly. Who on earth still thinks that popular equals good quality?
You've got to find the good shows and movies on your own.

Agree the lack of promotion makes little sense. Maria at best will garner a BA nom and perhaps a costuming win. Emilia Perez is up for far more awards: lead and supporting actors, best picture, and more. Why are they not hyping the heck out of it?

She is nothing like Callas, doesn't have the fire and charisma at least not anymore. When they show actual clips of Callas compared to Jolie, it's honestly shocking to me that anyone can consider that performance good. It's wooden and affected.

Jolie is just not a great actress. The only thing she was remotely good in was Girl Interrupted and she was basically playing herself. Maybe Malificent and also...herself. She is entirely devoid of charisma and range and fancies herself to have far more gravitas than she does as a nepo baby. She was so stunningly beautiful and that was her calling card, not her skill. I think aging is going to be rough for her.
