Fairfax beat Woodson.
Oakton beat Yorktown. Both finished 1st in their regions. |
Thanks, I appreciate these updates. |
| All 4 teams still headed to state tournament next week! |
Yep, and I despise that rule. Should be the winners - the end. |
Why only the top? There should be crossover play, one region could be stronger than the other |
I don’t mind crossovers if there is a winner/loser bracket like they do in National Tourneys. But you have some schools who lost at Districts. Lost at Regionals. And now have a 3d bite at a post season in the state tournament. |
But to advance to state a team would have to beat a higher ranked team in the crossover in Regionals. So perhaps one region is stronger than the other. That’s the whole purpose of crossovers |
I guess. Still not a fan. And genuinely not seeing the scenario you describe much, if at all, the last few years in our region. |
| State Semi-finals today. Rematch between Yorktown and Fairfax (Yorktown won 1-0) with Oakton playing on the other side against out of town team. All 3 local teams have to travel to VA Beach to play each other! |
The scenario played out this year, Yorktown lost to oakton in 6D regional finals. Then in state tournament Yorktown beat the first place team from region 6Bin quarter finals and then they beat the first place team from Region 6C in state semifinals. The state finals will be a rematch of region 6D finals, Yorktown v Oakton |
Yorktown win in OT 2-1, actually. |
| Glad to see Fairfax out of the running now. |
What’s wrong with you? These are kids and HS kids work very hard to go far in the post season. So you’re an a$$hole. |
| Easy there. For those who follow the sport in this area, Fairfax is an easy team to cheer against after they beat a helpless team 25-0 a few years ago. That won't earn you any independent fans. |
