So stupid. Men eat chicken salad.

Did I say no men do? It's 2 sentences, how did you get so confused?

NP. Your comment definitely implied that most men don’t eat chicken salad, so you can drop the shocked pikachu reaction.

The ones I know don't. Can you read at all? When there's a sandwich spread almost zero men I've known grab the chicken salad. Some may go for tuna salad. Now tell us about allll the men in your life who just love chicken salad? How old are they first of all?

DP. My husband, age 55, almost always orders the chicken salad if it’s on a menu. Loves it. (I don’t.)

Coworker, late 30s, loves the restaurant Chicken Salad Chick so much, he felt the need to tell us all about it during a staff meeting.

When I was in college, I worked at a cafe where the chicken salad was by far the most popular thing on the menu, and lots of men ordered it.

Cool. I'm glad some men love it. The ones I know less than 50 tend to care a lot about health and diet and would never eat a fat laden salad on a croissant for a meal. OP needs to know her audience which is why I asked on page one for more info.

Oh, now you’re making it all about the fat content? Sure, totally a man thing.

Lol. There are tons of reasons to not eat chicken salad. These are just two. But if you think it's the bestest meal in the whole world nobody is going to stop you from serving it. Just accept it can be polarizing.

Polarizing to whom? I am not aware of any chicken salad controversy in the general public.

It's hysterical how out of touch people on here are.

And yet there’s still not a single non-chicken salad recommendation given in this entire thread, except for avocado toast, which I’m pretty sure was a joke.

And yet OP didn't ask for a menu or other recommendations. OP asked to discuss this as an option. My guess is OP knew exactly how this would go over on here, like other mayonnaise based salads and dip suggestions go. Because apparently it is news to some that not everyone likes mayo.

About 1 in 5 don't like it. So, statistically, it's the safer choice.

https://www.popsci.com/mayonnaise-disgust/

To be clear, a mayo-based salad would be acceptable to most people.

So, to be clear, you posted an article that says "Mayonnaise is disgusting, and science agrees" in the title and you're like, that's definitely what I plan to serve!

Science found 20% don't like it. So, while the title is stupid, the results are clear. People like mayo.

This article is from 2017. And for some, having an entire salad based on mayonnaise might go beyond the amount of mayonnaise they are willing to tolerate.

That's why they put the chicken in there. So, it's not a whole salad based on mayo. It's based on chicken.

The reality is that there are no foods that every single person likes. Chicken salad is a reasonably popular food. It's also nice to have something cool and refreshing on a hot day. OP also mentioned the plan to serve sides, so if this person detests mayo they can fill up on sides.

I think this is a fine idea.

If it's so obvious why do you think OP is crowdsourcing it instead of just running with the idea?

Suppose OP’s husband were to say to his coworker, “we’d love to have you, do you like chicken salad?” It would seem really impolite for the guy to say, no, I don’t like it, can you ask her to make avocado toast? Like, how exactly does this “I make what my guests will like” thing work, when most normal people would not specify their exact preferences (other than vegetarian, allergies, etc.)

So more than a smear like a deli sandwich would have. That's quite a lot.

When the 2nd ingredient after chicken is mayonnaise are you trying to fool people into what they are eating? Serve chicken salad, nobody is telling you not to. But people have opinions on it. Which is what OP is getting at. You must be so confused.

+1

I love it on a croissant also.

I like homemade chicken salad with minimal amount of mayonnaise. I also like it with celery. I have had it with grapes and dried cranberries and pecans but it has to be cold.

I can’t eat Luke warm salads with mayonnaise. It grosses me out.

NP. The salad is not “based on mayonnaise”. It’s dressed with mayo and other things in the proportions that you decide, as the person preparing it. Have you ever even had chicken salad?

Share your recipe. Let's discuss how much is in there.

For 4-6 servings, I use 1/4 cup.

So more than a smear like a deli sandwich would have. That's quite a lot.

That's a tablespoon per person. Many people will put a tablespoon of mayo on a sandwich.

I'm going to guess that OP puts more than a tablespoon of chicken in each sandwich, plus other things.

Yall are bizarre. Who cares this much about chicken salad?

I think chicken salad is fine and I also think most people are fairly flexible about what they eat even if the exact amount of mayo is not what they would prepare for themselves. That said I would likely have an alternative sandwich option like turkey out on the table as well.

So…you just have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about here, eh

When the 2nd ingredient after chicken is mayonnaise are you trying to fool people into what they are eating? Serve chicken salad, nobody is telling you not to. But people have opinions on it. Which is what OP is getting at. You must be so confused.

Ohh you’re the confidently incorrect poster from earlier. Got it.

I can tell you don’t know wtf you’re talking about because you’re comparing a smear on a deli sandwich to what you would use to dress chicken salad. Again, you clearly have no clue what you’re talking about.

If its so little then leave it out all together. Then everybody wins.
