Chicken salad: discuss

Review: It was good, but not how I would make it. It had a LOT of mayo, which I'm not keen on, and the chicken was somehow both shredded and in chunks at the same time -- I think it best to be either/or. It had celery. Not sure it had anything else in there besides chicken, mayo, and celery. The "plate" had a scoop of chicken salad, a scoop of coleslaw (which was really good), some sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, and some kalamata olives. I did eat most of the tomatoes and cucumbers because I'm trying to force myself to eat more vegetables, and I ate the olives, because, well, olives are good.

I'd order it again. Maybe.

Your first mistake was eating at the Virginian. Your second mistake was not ordering the biscuits and gravy.

NP. I wonder if people who won’t eat anything that has mayo because it’s “yucky” would ever even try sausage gravy in the first place 🤔

I realize its contradictory, but I hate mayo and love sausage gravy. I think mayo is like white jello which grosses me out but white gravy with sausage lumps is heaven on earth.

They are both disgusting.

I cannot believe I missed this insane thread the first go round. Thanks to the poster who bumped it and announced the new food chain.

Don't listen to the weirdos here who freak out at the mere mention of mayonnaise.

I’m ok with mayonnaise and most chicken salad, but buffalo anything tastes like vomit.

It's a pepper sauce what is so scary? I'm going to guess you have a lot of food aversions and an extremely limited palate. You're probably not going to OPs home anyway.

I like spicy/hot/pepper stuff and a lot of different foods but Buffalo is just gross to me

We love Giant’s chicken salad at their deli. It always goes, so someone enjoys chicken salad!

NYT has a Coronation Chicken Salad recipe that is unique and delicious, albeit a little fussy to make.

Speaking of chicken salad, this mayo-free version is absolutely delicious: https://www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddrink/recipes/the-cucumber-chicken-salad-i-ve-been-eating-for-over-a-decade/ar-BB1qPk4T

Toasted sesame, cucumber, and rice wine vinegar. I made it with chicken roasted with Hatch green chiles, and it was divine. Sort of the Asian version of German potato salad, but with chicken.

Sure. Maybe do a chicken salad, green salad, rolls, a fruit and cheese tray w/ crackers and dessert.

I would eat this version because I don't like grapes in salads or raw celery, but I would eat a chicken salad sandwich using a croissant for bread

Chicken salad is disgusting. Especially if it has pickle relish mixed in, yuck. I was recently served a giant glob of the stuff and could only get a couple of bites down even using water to help swallow it. I think the person who made it was offended but I didn't ask for it, just got served a plate of the goop.
