Sad really. Have we come very far with this in society? Hard to tell.

Allowing women to control their own bodies and lifestyles?

Yeah, no. I won’t watch.

It’s a $9 billion dollar industry, (Dallas Cowboys being the richest in the world) that pays its cheerleaders around $15-20 per hour, about $22,500 on average annually.

I hope they got paid to make the documentary.

You seem as though you view these very capable women as victims without any agency in their own lives.

I could see taking this viewpoint maaaybe in support of higher pay for strippers or some other group of women on behalf of whom you could potentially more-easily argue is in the profession due to lack of other viable options.
But being a DCC is not compulsory.
The team could cease to have cheerleaders tomorrow and the franchise would still go on to play the next game to a packed stadium.
The cheerleaders are free to not re-audition at any time.

Honestly I think that was a miscommunication.
Kelli was hot because she felt she was witnessing Klein publicly humiliating a colleague who spent her weekend off doing something nice for the girls (putting up a tree in the locker room and adding a personalized ornament for each girl) by whining/complaining about not having an ornament on the tree.
To be fair— Kelli’s reaction was in defense of that colleague/employee. Like “how about you come in and say ‘what a lovely tree! Thanks so much for doing this!’ instead of ‘where’s MY ornament?!?!’”

But Klein didn’t mean it that way. I think she *did* apprecythe tree. And she actually seemed genuinely giddy about the tree and was excited to find the ornament with her name on it…and then when she couldn’t find it and was sort of in excited-kid-like mode when she expressed not being able to find it”
It just came out all wrong, unfortunately.

And framed from Kelli’s viewpoint, she seemed like a spoiled ungrateful child, so Kelli called her out on the spot.

Finally finished up and saw this episode. That wasn't miscommunication. That was displaced aggression because she was pissed 10 cheerleaders didn't write a letter to the bus driver who had a stroke. It was horribly unprofessional. Kelli's "clarifications" should have been done to the whole group and not in private. You call someone out in public (which is wrong in most cases and definitely in this case), then you make that same clarification in public for everyone to see. (It's like that TikTok going around where a woman is like why do you want to take this conversation about Veronica offline when you were willing to call me out in front of the whole team). She handled that so wrong. I admire her directness, but this was just her being angry about the other stuff and humiliated this girl. If they don't want them to get excited about seeing their personalized ornaments on there, why do personalized ornaments then?

yes. She is waaaayyyyyy out of his league. Lucky guy.

I thought for sure she would realize that but looks like they are married now.

She never even had a guy put his arm around her let alone kiss her before she went on a date with Will. To get married to the first guy you date is a bad idea. He seems like a nice enough guy and I hope they last but I doubt it.

DCUM is so jaded.
It will last because they are both from families in Alabama with the same values and have a Christ-centered marriage, which means God is at the core and the commitment is for life.
Marrying him is great for her! He will cherish her and she has nothing by which to compare. He meets *her* standards and is a man of strong and steady faith—and that’s what is most important to her.

We shall see.

Agree. Charlotte Jones creeped me out.

NP. I can't believe the way the organization justifies how underpaid the DCC are. I mean...the DCC clearly bring value to the brand. The DC can afford it. Just pay the women what they're worth.

Well for starters, the cheerleaders of nfl teams are a drain in the budget.
Kelli Finglass made DCC profitable for the first time like 24 years ago.
Doing the DCC calendar was her brainbaby!…followed by the “making the team” series.

So yes they make some money NOW (that locker room upgrade alone!!!) but they were not always a profit center at all.

And if they paid actual wages, they would definitely be in the red.
Plus there are tons of young women who are willing to do the job for the exposure and the opportunities it opens for them.
They literally turn hundreds of hopefuls away every season. No one is being forced to stay.

So, before any of the current cheerleaders were even born. And they said in the documentary that they make a million dollars a year in profit from the DCC, which means that they could absolutely pay actual wages without going into the red. There are only 35 cheerleaders.

They obviously make a lot more than $1 million a year from the DCC. Think about all the appearances, calendars, and the reality show alone. No way it’s 1 million a year.

I tend to agree with you that they likely make more but didn't want to brag too much because it makes them look even worse for not paying them appropriately. But they admitted to $1M in profits on the show (after paying I'm sure reasonably generous salaries to Charlotte and the coaches), and that figure alone destroys the argument that paying the cheerleaders would put them in the red.

I think depending on where you live it’s possible for teen boys to not truly have a good handle on how incredibly eff-ed up gender dynamics can be in this country even now. This show appalled all of us( while also being a fun watch, somehow.)

On another note, we spent a lot of time talking about whether the dcc org knew/knows how villainous they come across. My thought is no.

Shocked at how athletic and hard working drill team woman are?

There's something incongruous about her touting her Christian faith while dancing in a suggestive manner in a very skimpy costume.

Did Bible girl do the Burning Up sexy dance for tryouts? What a hoot.

- Happy to hear that no one can touch a cheerleader during picture taking. I like the example of giving the guy a football to hold vs placing his arm around her.
-There girls are religious! It’s in God’s hands to make me a cheerleader or not. Wow.
-Some of these ladies are emotionally fragile.

The “hold the football” thing for pictures is very smart - I wonder whose idea that was

The filmaker was obviously trying to make them look villainous. In the very first shot of Kelly, she was frowning and narrowing her eyes. Evil personified. I watched a few episodes of the CMT documentary and thought she came off as tough, but fair, and empathetic with the girls when they were cut. This doc went out of the way to make her look mean. During the scene where they were watching the videos, 80% of the comments shown were negative, when they obviously invited a large group of girls to try out. Small decisions in editing can make a huge difference in how people come off to the first time viewer.

It’s weird how you people think religious women aren’t allowed to be sexy. You have such a dated, fundamentalist view of Christianity.

They probably got it from the British royals who hold a clutch in one hand to block people from hugging or holding their hands.

Then why does the south have higher divorce rates?
