Dallas cowboy cheerleader show - netflix

Anna Kate - did anyone else think she didn't seem particularly into it, and just did it because her older sister Caroline did it and talked it up so much? Even though Caroline needed hip surgery and foot surgery all before the age of 30?! So glad Anna Kate has her job as an investment adviser and can do something else.

Reese - so it's agreed, she bothers all of us. Funnily enough, remember Minka Kelly on Friday Night Lights? People complained about HER having a baby voice too, and they look VERY similar to each other. Her saying she hopes when people look at her they see Jesus was .... confusing to me. Maybe it's because I'm jewish, or just ... not blind? But she looks NOTHING like any of the pictures of Jesus I've seen. When people look at her they'll just see a pretty girl shaking her ass while smiling really big. The other girls seem to really like her, so I guess she'll become a team captain. She seems like the type to have cats. Seems odd to me that her boyfriend/fiance/husband Will has a bachelors degree but got a job at the front desk of an auto supply store. There are 15 year olds who could do that job.

Sophy - I'm so glad the Dallas Cowboys security made the decision to tell the photographer that grabbed her ass he's never allowed back at the stadium.

Victoria's mother - this woman has done nothing since her days as a DCC. And she convinced herself and her daughter becoming a 2nd generation DCC would be the only way Victoria would be happy. There's something deeply unsettling about how she seems to have nothing else in her life but Victoria and her cheerleading 30 years ago.

Victoria - this girl needs to move far, far away from her mother. Why was she still living at home? In her childhood bedroom with a twin bed? So many moments disturbed me with her - her just standing in the locker room with all the other girls silently. Her opening the door of her house to the cameraman and excitedly saying "We're doing a tik Tok dance!" and running back to her mom, filming it. Her celebrating her birthday with ... no friends, just her mom. Her mom said she doesn't understand why Victoria doesn't have DCC friends, that she has friends at her dance classes and stuff. But then why doesn't Victoria ever talk about them, or show them at her birthday party? WTF was her dress at the last party in the last episode? It was horrific. If you've read this far, your treat is knowing she moved to NYC to become an influencer. Honestly, moving away from her mother was the healthiest thing she could have done.

Kelcy - anyone else think her boyfriend Nate was trying to look like Dax Shepard? I'm glad they were moving to California - Dallas seems very ... cult like to me. You have to love football and Jesus and nothing else will do.

The scene where Kelli yelled at Klein for asking about an ornament though. Kelli is unprofessional. Who publicly humiliates their employees? Texas culture is so toxic.

yes. She is waaaayyyyyy out of his league. Lucky guy.

I thought for sure she would realize that but looks like they are married now.

He’s not even rich ! She’s a dance major- she needs to marry up!

Someone on Reddit who went to Bama with him said that he comes from major money.

Why on earth is he working as a power washing employee in a store? Maybe he himself doesn't have any money.

Probably because it’s easy work if you’re able bodied, predictable hours, and not at all cutthroat. You know the wealthy women who have no kids at home who work in boutiques? This is the equivalent for guys who drive trucks and like to pretend they’re blue collar but have no actual skills.

So not sure if this is true bet I read they make 75K a year - based on what they are paid for practices, games, and appearances. So enough compared to what they should earn given how much money they bring in for the org but mor than I thought.

I don’t understand how a Gloria Allred type figure has not come in and help them fight for cuts of the reality shows, calendars and other merch. I get that 3 to 5 years as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders is not enough to set you up for life but they but seems like they should be making at least 3-4x times what they’re making.

Isn’t that the same on high school and college dance or drill teams?
Practice every day, year round sport, go to every home and away game, large group of girls. Athletic, active and feminine, what every frat boys family wants.

Well for starters, the cheerleaders of nfl teams are a drain in the budget.
Kelli Finglass made DCC profitable for the first time like 24 years ago.
Doing the DCC calendar was her brainbaby!…followed by the “making the team” series.

So yes they make some money NOW (that locker room upgrade alone!!!) but they were not always a profit center at all.

And if they paid actual wages, they would definitely be in the red.
Plus there are tons of young women who are willing to do the job for the exposure and the opportunities it opens for them.
They literally turn hundreds of hopefuls away every season. No one is being forced to stay.

I am sort of ashamed I said this to my teen daughter and she was horrified “mom he’s so sweet and he loved her so much! Don’t be like that! His heart makes him 100x more attractive than any guy you’d match her with on looks.”
….and she’s right.

Supply and demand maybe?
They can try to demand more $$ but there is a steady supply of talented performers ready and willing to replace them at the snap of Kelli and Judy’s fingers. And they’ll do it with a smile and without the bad attitude.

That's why she married him!

Honestly I think that was a miscommunication.
Kelli was hot because she felt she was witnessing Klein publicly humiliating a colleague who spent her weekend off doing something nice for the girls (putting up a tree in the locker room and adding a personalized ornament for each girl) by whining/complaining about not having an ornament on the tree.
To be fair— Kelli’s reaction was in defense of that colleague/employee. Like “how about you come in and say ‘what a lovely tree! Thanks so much for doing this!’ instead of ‘where’s MY ornament?!?!’”

But Klein didn’t mean it that way. I think she *did* apprecythe tree. And she actually seemed genuinely giddy about the tree and was excited to find the ornament with her name on it…and then when she couldn’t find it and was sort of in excited-kid-like mode when she expressed not being able to find it”
It just came out all wrong, unfortunately.

And framed from Kelli’s viewpoint, she seemed like a spoiled ungrateful child, so Kelli called her out on the spot.

When they actually performed “Thunderstruck” and did the splits thing I swear I got tears in my eyes.

You need to go back and watch all the DCC: Making the Team seasons on CMT.

I think it goes back like 9 seasons! Superfun tip watch how the program has evolved!

Same! I keep seeing all these posts of people discovering the show on Netflix and think - where were you all the last 15 years!

+1. I preferred the tv show to the documentary.

I'm familiar with the show. Watched it years ago, forgot all about it, and now saw it came back on Netflix. Most people aren't tuning into CMT on a regular basis, but Netflix puts it back on the radar.

It’s a different show.
Same basic idea but this one is not produced by DCC so it’s more of an exposè

She never even had a guy put his arm around her let alone kiss her before she went on a date with Will. To get married to the first guy you date is a bad idea. He seems like a nice enough guy and I hope they last but I doubt it.

DCUM is so jaded.
It will last because they are both from families in Alabama with the same values and have a Christ-centered marriage, which means God is at the core and the commitment is for life.
Marrying him is great for her! He will cherish her and she has nothing by which to compare. He meets *her* standards and is a man of strong and steady faith—and that’s what is most important to her.

This PP - brava! You’ve written a masterful summary and I so wish I knew you IRL because we’d have a watch party with running commentary.

A+ and please come back with more thoughts! Xoxo, another DCC superfan and long ago Texas-style drill team member, high kick champion and try out judge.

Sad really. Have we come very far with this in society? Hard to tell.

Allowing women to control their own bodies and lifestyles?

Yeah, no. I won’t watch.

It’s a $9 billion dollar industry, (Dallas Cowboys being the richest in the world) that pays its cheerleaders around $15-20 per hour, about $22,500 on average annually.

I hope they got paid to make the documentary.

You seem as though you view these very capable women as victims without any agency in their own lives.

I could see taking this viewpoint maaaybe in support of higher pay for strippers or some other group of women on behalf of whom you could potentially more-easily argue is in the profession due to lack of other viable options.
But being a DCC is not compulsory.
The team could cease to have cheerleaders tomorrow and the franchise would still go on to play the next game to a packed stadium.
The cheerleaders are free to not re-audition at any time.
