A letter was sent and signed by something like 80 parents of juniors and it was totally ignored by Reid, Tyson and others. Our PTA quit because Noto berated the president so bad for standing up for the students. The teachers don’t know their left hand from their right anymore because everything has been flipped so upside down. Please I would love for some advice on what else parents can do.

Go to the local newspapers.

The local papers are not widely read and Washington Post wouldn’t touch it. Try Fox News. They like FCPS and LCPS stories.

Fox News ran stories about this and interviews parents from West Potomac. I think it would require a vocal group to start showing up at SB meetings and speaking out. This is what has worked in other parts of the country where parents have successfully gotten rid of SBG.

This is purely my observation:

1. Herndon parents seem to be less involved, resulting in a weaker PTA at Herndon High.
2. The Dranesville board member appears to only prioritize McLean and Langley.
3. Therefore, the HHS principal can run the school however she wants.
4. Many concerned parents either move or transfer their kids to other high schools.
5. As a result, fewer and fewer involved parents remain within the Herndon boundary.

Herndon MS and HS has a majority of kids who are FARMs and ESOL, their parents are less likely to be engaged in their kids education then the parents of kids at Madison. The Herndon parents who have kids in the AP program are complaining. Herndon MS failed accreditation this year so it should be on Gatehouse's radar.

Where do you get your information about less involved parents? Seems you are making assumptions because the meetings about this topic have been packed. Are you assuming that high FARMS rate means less parent involvement?? If so, you need to get out of your bubble.

Look at their PTA website. It’s very barebone.

They didn’t even have an active PTA before.

Looks like the PTA was nonexistent for about 5-6 years and started up again this year.

Inactivity at all is bad and being inactive for years is a bad trend.

It starting up again is a good sign but too recent to be very reassuring.

Madison isn't doing much better. FCPS conducted that one meeting on SBG but otherwise nothing substantial is happening other than the shift from 0 to 4.0 to 50-100 grading scale. These are all FCPS wide policies and not initiated by Madison.

Washington Post has done articles on education issues in the DMV. No one will take Fox News seriously at Gatehouse.

Is SBG on the agenda for any SB meeting?

Washington Post and most non-right-wing papers will not negatively portray any local system unless the story breaks big or will enrage the paper/outlet's target audience. Not sure if this is about the audience of those outlets or if it's about not losing contacts in FCPS/LCPS/whatever.

Just look how long it took Washington Post to pick up on the VMPI story - it had to break big via other outlets first.

Is everyone at Herndon going to have a 4.0?
Anonymous
I don’t think retakes = 4.0 for everyone. Otherwise wouldn’t all the students at the other schools without SBG (and have retakes) be getting 4.0s?
Anonymous
Yes but the parents won’t stop until their kids have all As.

You obviously do not understand what is happening. Kids are not getting 4.0 from all this.

Don’t be a hater. The data just proved that the kids grades at HHS suffered. A’s went down significantly, C’s went up significantly. This has nothing to do with the parents being annoying helicopter parents - and all to do with a terrible procedure by the school.
