AAP notifications arrived

Oh dang my kid had very similar stats but was rejected at a less competitive school/pyramid. Not going to appeal because I don’t think it’s worth it, he knows the material very well but rushes through tests and was sick when he took the COGAT. Also they just started LLIV last school year at his elementary so not sure how fleshed out it is yet and for various reasons I would absolutely not send him to the center, which is completely out of our pyramid. Guess everyone will just have to deal with him being bored in 3rd grade.

You can reach out to ask about principal placement into the level IV classroom. Also it won’t hurt to appeal. It’s just a form and new work samples , WISC is not required but may help with lower test scores.

In -3rd grade reapplication
Cogat- 143
NNAT- 127
Iready- math 99% and reading 97%

In the local level IV class for all subjects. If your child did not get in this year try to speak with your AART and principal about placement in the local level IV class for all subjects. We were informed of our daughter’s placement in the local level class at the end of last school year. I think this is what helped as my child has done well and thrived this school year.

Have not seen HOPE

IN

I'm sure people with Cogat 140+ are fuming right now given my kid's relatively low test scores. Sorry guys - it wasn't my call and I'm as surprised as you.

Same scores IN. Perhaps we both should mind our business and worry about our kids? Hard but let's try

The scores for acceptance really depend on which school you are at.

This isn't exactly true. The pool for each school has changed significantly but the central committee and their decision-making process has not.

Do they know if the child is in pool when reviewing the file

Anonymous wrote:In the rejection letter it said GBRS and no mention of HOPE. so is it GBRS or HOPE this year?

High COGAT, NNAT and all 4's in report card from 2 years, probably low iready but on par with the iready scores of who got in.

Disappointed in the evaluation system!!!

It was HOPE. They couldn't be bothered to update the rejection letter.

Part of the process has changed this year according to my friend who is a helicopter parent. According to her, until last year, parent referral was optional. Most parents did submit referral because they wanted to. This year onward, for the child to be considered for AAP, parent referral was a must. Only if parent referred, they were going to open a file for the child's AAP process.

We submitted referral for DC and we would have anyway even if it was optional like until last year.

My friend always has something unique to offer and I wasn't sure that was true either. I just trusted her because she is super involved in her kids' lives and their schools and academics (FCPS). It would be interesting to know from someone here who did not make a referral for their child and yet the child is IN. Then we know for sure that my friend's information is incorrect.

I have twins in the Langley pyramid. One got in and one didn’t.

IN
NNAT 144
Cogat 135

NOT IN
NNAT 129
Cogat 130

Haven’t seen their HOPE scores, but the one who got in talks all the time. The other is more reserved.

Kids are considered if they are in pool, whether parents applied or not. I think most people on this forum DID refer regardless of pool notification.

Requiring a parent referral would erode the goal of equity in the process. My understanding is that among other things, in pool scores ensure that everyone with “AAP potential” is considered, regardless of parents’ involvement in or understanding of the process. I can’t imagine, therefore, that they’d require parents to complete a referral.
