Where to find HOPE number? |
Hello everyone! I'm here to provide some perspective. My son is an engineering student at Virginia Tech. He is a junior now with a solid GPA and is managing the workload just fine.
He did not get into AAP when he was in elementary school. He wasn't even close. It'll be ok. |

Cogat 129 iReady Math 98 iReady Reading 98 Good grade overall since kindergarten if that matters IN |
Thank you! I think what’s frustrating is that the curriculum for FCPS non AAP kids is so basic! I have seen what my AAP gets and it’s challenging work vs what my non AAP gets and the gal is substantial. My mom AAP kid can do so much more! |
Thank you. I know many such examples where the kid wasn't into AAP but they are extremely successful in their careers. Getting into AAP is good but if your child hasn't been accepted, please don't let that affect them or you. It all works out eventually. |
How many kids get in from each school? We are at an AAP center in McLean. There is one AAP class so I would estimate 25% or 25-30 kids are in AAP. |
Love this! Thank you for bringing some perspective here. This forum has helped guide me through the entire application process but also increased my stress and anxiety. |
I posted on the other thread but posting here as well.
Not in CogAt 119. Q was 11 pts higher than V, lowest score was NV. Excellent HOPE (3 always, 6 almost always, 2 often). Teacher suggested we apply at the fall conference 90% math and 87% reading iready. I thought the work samples looked good but definitely no expert in this area. On it's face, this profile looks like DC could just do well in advanced math only but DC is actually strongest in LA/history... math does not come naturally and only with a lot of repetition! Classwork is solid but DC is inconsistent with standardized testing- I think rushes through it. Winter iready reading went up to 95% but math showed no growth (same raw score as the fall, down to 75%) so I don't think I can submit it. I'm scheduling a WISC hoping that a different format will go better. |

I'm PP. Your child can pick honor/AP/IB classes in middle and high school There is PLENTY of time for them to grow and prove what they can do. In the meantime there are books, engineering kits, summer programs....use all of those to let your kid explore whatever interests them at their own speed and in a fun, low-pressure way. |

What school? Center? |
I'm PP. You've got a lot of time left to be stressed and anxious. Pace yourself. ![]() |
