Anonymous wrote:Hello everyone! I'm here to provide some perspective. My son is an engineering student at Virginia Tech. He is a junior now with a solid GPA and is managing the workload just fine.

He did not get into AAP when he was in elementary school. He wasn't even close.

It'll be ok.

Thank you. I know many such examples where the kid wasn't into AAP but they are extremely successful in their careers. Getting into AAP is good but if your child hasn't been accepted, please don't let that affect them or you. It all works out eventually.

I'm PP. By the time they get to high school, you can't tell which kids were in AAP and which ones were not. It all evens out.

This proves that iReady was the weighed the heaviest. Which is ridiculous because before Covid, FCPS was going to stop using iReady and every teacher I talked to said it was not a good indicator of a child’s abilities. What changed?

The teachers hate the IReady but the schools trust it, regardless of what they say. It is used for small group work on the high end and low end, and unlike COGAT/NNAT is less subject to prepping because you actually have to be learning what they're teaching in school!

On the flip side, I don't think IReady shows raw intellect per se, but it does show who has already mastered standard grade level curriculum.

Your school has AART(advanced academic resource teacher). That person handles the application and AAP related stuff. Email that person and ask for the whole application packet submitted. He/she will send them to you. You will see how the teacher graded HOPE.

+1

Test results are pretty much on point for both of my kids. 1 is quite advanced and the other not so much.

Have you seen anyone with an iReady below 90% that didn’t have really high test scores. Nope.
