I've always found this weird about Catholic schools

Apparently you're too dumb to get nuance and subtle distinctions, too.

Even though I know many women in my social circle that hold the same views on Catholic schools/church i.e. an organization that does not practice what it preaches or forces down your throat, I won't continue to argue with you. Catholics are the greatest. Please get back to sending your sons to the back rooms after confession. Ha!

We should spare your delicate little feelings by not continuing to call you a bigot? Ah hahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!

And that fact that you know many women in your social circle who you claim agree with you - I doubt that, maybe they agree with you on birth control and pederasty but not the rest. You and your charming friends really sit around and bash catholics together? You must be a charming bunch. Do you wear pointy white hats when you do this?

I'm referring to OP. I'm not OP referring to the rest of you.

I can't imagine anyone coming out of the left and not appreciating the work Catholic organizations have done with the poor. And OP clearly isn't from the right, since she accuses the rest of us of being Republicans. So I think she comes from that old nativist tradition of anti-Catholicism, dressed up in a broader liberal cloak to make it more appealing. And I agree that though she might have friends who are also appalled at the Church's role with pedophiles (and really, who isn't? I mean, hey, me and my friends would be with you there) and the Church's retrograde views of sexuality (MOST Catholics would be with you there as well), I highly doubt the girlfriends are getting together to chat up the shameful way Catholics have treated the poor. Cause really, there can't be that dumb a group.

Some people just need somebody to hate. A lightening rod, if you will for a lot of unrelated pent-up anger. When this is combined with a willingness to ignore facts - such as PP's post about the catholic church and the poor and how many Catholics disagree with the church on various issues (I'm not catholic but I have catholic friends) - it's called bigotry.

A problem with OP is that she's not going away, really. She'll pop up again in the future, making Mel Gibson comments on a Mater Dei thread (she has actually done this) and the like.
Anonymous
OP again. Just to clear up a few facts. I did not post on the Mater Dei thread. Yes I'm Protestant, and I'm more right of center than left but consider myself an independent . Again I do not HATE catholics and I am not a bigot. Maybe you disagree with me and that's all well and good, but please, I take offence to being called a bigot.
Anonymous
Ugh, you're a Protestant. Like me. I'm embarassed for protestants and apologize on our behalf.

Maybe if, instead of taking offense at being called a bigot, you listened to some of the factual points bring made here, and examined your own dissonance between feelings and facts, you wouldn't fit the definition of "bigot" so well.

Sorry, but your taking offense at being called a bigot does not worry me at all. You yourself are busy offending a great many people.

I also suggest all of you who disagree with me to read this article:

Read the article. Nowhere does it justify trying to rally people against other people based on false facts (your attempt to rally anti-catholic hatred based on false facts about catholic schools or charities).

You're still a bigot.

You're Protestant? Guess you missed the parts in the NT about loving your enemies, only god can judge other people not you or me, et cetera. So I guess you couldn't be called much of a Protestant, or anything else except a bigot.

OK, i think we need to spell it out for OP. You specifically attacked Catholic schools and their service to the poor. When it was pointed out that Catholic schools actually educate more poor children than schools from any other denomination, your retreated to the pedophile scandal and also the fact that you know wealthy families who send their children to Catholic schools. You have utterly failed to refute the fact that Catholic schools serve the poor, and that Catholic organizations serve the poor. But you do seem to have animosity toward your Catholic neighbors who send their children to Catholic schools. And while you keep hammering on the pedophile scandal, you have done nothing to retract your original completely baseless assertion about Catholics and the poor. Cause you don't care about the facts or the poor, you just hate Catholics, including those neighbors of yours whose sin seems to be sending their kids to Gonzaga instead of Sidwell.

When you have animus toward someone solely because of their faith, thats bigotry.

Thanks 11:13, that was good.

I can't imagine in this day and age anyone hating someone so much for being Catholic. That is so retro. OP claims to have friends -- I doubt it...who could stand to be someone like that.

OP, are the poster bashing immigrants on the DCUM politics forum?
Anonymous
Wow...just when you thought it couldn't go any lower.
