I've always found this weird about Catholic schools

I'm chuckling at how most of the posters calling OP a bigot seem to be Jewish or protestant. Although OP the conspiracy theorist may try to say they're Catholics in disguise....

OP here again. This might just be my final post. I really want this thread to die but since you won’t let it we’ll flame on.

1) Again I stand by my assertion that Catholic schools, independent or not tend to be the haven for the rich and wealthy, while giving out a few scholarships (mostly athletic) to a few minority black and brown children. I have nothing against private education for the wealthy, my children go to private school, as did i. but, don’t pretend as if Visitation isn’t a school filled with spoiled bratty girls who have no cares in the world, or if Gonzaga isn’t really a sports school, sort of a Landon light (I love Landon by the way). These schools might be “independent” but they sure love to throw out the Catholic banner. Why aren’t these schools 50% kids from Southeast instead of probably 90% wealthier kids? Let’s not even talk about higher education, with Notre Dame, Georgetown or BC costing about $50k each, how many non-athlete poor kids actually go there? I guess you could just hide behind the independent label again right? It’s easier for a poor child to (with the grades I’m not saying you should give handouts) to afford Harvard, since the school has great needs based aid, than Georgetown.

2) I don’t want to tar all Catholics as bad people, but this is an organization that would rather see Africans get AIDS than use condoms. When I hear of a worldwide Presbyterian scandal involving pastors on all continents I’ll withdraw my view that there is something rotting in Rome.

I’m not a bigot. I love all people, I just don’t understand why their schools ONLY cater to the elite and that’s why I started the thread. That is all.

You have totally ignored all the inner city Catholic schools that cater entirely to the poor. Are there any protestant or jewish schools that are entirely comprised of poor students? No! But there are many such Catholic schools. So your point number 1 is not valid, not to mention you totally ignore Episcopal and Quaker schools which have much more of a tradition of educating the elites. Which you don't have a problem with, you say. Your problem is Catholicism, and yeah, you are a bigot. And you just can't admit you are wrong on the underlying facts, can you?

What 12:02 said, with bells on.

Since you say you'll withdraw your bigoted position when another church is exposed: how about the Anglican bishops in Africa who are breaking with the Anglican (aka Episcopal) church over homosexuality? I presume you share my belief that the church should welcome gay marriage and leadership....

Nah, I didn't think so. You won't retract anything.

You're a bigot, obsessed to the point of starting bogus threads like this one in a pathetic attempt to whip up hatred.

Not to mention I'm pretty sure you're the poster who makes snide remarks about Mel Gibson on catholic school threads, as if he had anything to do with the schools.

Signed, the Anglican (Episcopal) mom

Continuing with your claim that "I'll withdraw my view when there is a scandal involving Presbyterian ministers on all continents" -

the anology with Muslims and the 9/11 terrorists has been mentioned.

Or is that not good enough, because it has to be Protestant Christian, nay, even Presbyterian.

You simply don't want to change your mind.

OP, do you think we are dumb? Or are you just dumb?

Harvard gives more aid than Georgetown because it has a huge endowment funded by its fabulously successful alum network. Everybody knows this.

You're a bigot too, of course. Making up stuff to defend a thread on religious hatred simply helps you meet the definition of bigot.

OP, when you provide stats to support your claim that catholic schools serve the poor less than other schools, I'll revise my position that you're blowing this stuff out your a$$.

(BTW- it's OK that Quaker and Episcopal schools cater to the elite? The hypocrisy! And the bigotry! Honestly, she's beyond ridiculous.)

Your final post? Really?!! Finally ... you've said something of substance with which we can all agree. Thank you for bringing such peace and closure to us all.

OP doesn't seem to realize Catholics were so persecuted and barred from "polite society" in the US that they had to start their own schools. What? Your poor little lovely didn't get into Georgetown OP?

Bigot is as bigot does...or in this case ....says. Repent for your bigoted religious hatred......

PP my point exactly...this entire thread is weird and everybody is wasting their time arguing with a silly posting which got weirder and weirder by the second.

I just find it really odd people are able to be so open about their dislike for Catholics. What's up with that? Can you imagine someone saying something like..."I've always found this weird about AAs or Hispanics"? It would be atrocious. So, why is it ok to blast Catholics?
Anonymous
PP I agree. How about choosing civility, tolerance and/or acceptance for whatever journey people choose. This thread is not only weird but disgusting and hateful. And for the record, I'm not Catholic but if I were....who cares?
