I've always found this weird about Catholic schools

Anonymous
I agree that it would be hateful to post that "I find this weird about ... (pick your race)". Yet OP has freely admitted that she has a double-standard vis-a-vis Quaker and Episcopal schools catering to the elite. Which is how one defines a bigot.

Unfortunately bigotry is more common than we like to admit, but if OP has done us any service, it's to remind us that bigotry still exists everywhere, even on DCUM. (FWIW, I'm not Catholic.)

Bravo! That was perfect.

PP - Completely Agree. The thing I learned most about reading DCUM this year is that bigotry exists. Has been a useful reminder in how to keep this a focus in teaching my children life lessons and never to be complacent.

Haven't read through the other postings so please excuse me if I repeat something someone else may have said but maybe it's because they rely on donations to survive and thrive. Also, in the past, the Church was one of the seats of power and royal and wealthy/elite families sought religious positions or education for their children who were not first born sons.

Because it's different when parents can afford to send their kids to Sidwell? Why? Plus, if your point is that the catholic church subsidizes tuition so that middle class families can afford the $15-20K (vs other privates which cost 30K), you're basically inderming your own point.

Also, what happened in the 1700s doesn't seem very relevant now. If these points are to justify an anti-catholic prejudice (OP, is that you?) they seem to be really stretching for a rationale....

Welcome back, OP. Yes, we know it's you - you need to pretend to be a new poster because you said you were leaving for good.

Your new points trying to justify anti-catholic bigotry are even lamer than your bogus school argument. At least you seem to have given up on that one, in the face of evidence from other posters.

meant "undermining" not inderming....

17:45 here. Guys, stop being paranoid, I'm not OP. I'll go back through the thread and come back later. Geez.

17:45 again. Sorry, forgot to say, no, I'm not anti-Catholic and didn't mean for my post to be read that way.

Unfortunately your reasons for disliking Catholics sound very much like the specious reasoning that OP engages on. That is, if you're not, you know, OP.

Does anybody have the energy to engage this new bigot/troll? Or should we just report him/her/it to Jeff and he can figure out if it's OP and in any case take appropriate action?
Anonymous
Please somebody stop the hatred. It really has spiraled to new lows. It's just horrible.

I think 17:45 is a new poster who is trying to figure out OP but the problem is that OP is a bigot and there's really no rationalizing that.

What I actually find heartening in this thread is how everyone, I mean EVERYONE, called OP out on her bigotry no matter their religion or politics. Nobody agreed with her -- she stands alone here. Lets give this thread credit for that.

I wish Sonya Sotomayor was reading this thread:

Uggh. Please let this thread die. You're right I, the OP am a bigot. Got me!Move on. Even though I know many women in my social circle that hold the same views on Catholic schools/church i.e. an organization that does not practice what it preaches or forces down your throat, I won't continue to argue with you. Catholics are the greatest. Please get back to sending your sons to the back rooms after confession. Ha!
