What you and many others don’t understand is that being nude at the beach is not about being sexually enticing to others. No one there gives two shits what you think.

Can you seriously tell me why going topless is some magical experience? I mean, just a tube top style bikini is really repressing you?

I’m European and grew up with women going topless but it was maybe 10% of women only on specific beaches. Sure, it’s about sexual freedom but let’s not pretend it’s not about sex.

I will say I don’t understand covering up aggressively in gym locker rooms where you’re just going to and from the shower ; that happens in N America and seems silly to me, but that’s a women’s only space and everyone is busy getting to the next thing, no one is lying there for hours reading a magazine.

Our beach vacations are now with our four kids in ES and MS so my topless days are over even though I've held up quite well according to my husband. I will wear a nice mom-bikini but that's about it.

I thought you just said it is no big deal to bare your breasts at the beach. Either it is a non-issue or it isn’t. All of your kids are aware that you (and they) have a body.

Have you seen the standards we’re held to? I had a near perfect body before kids and felt very comfortable with it but still wouldn’t go naked in public. It’s still pretty great and I’m mostly comfortable with it but my stomach skin is loose and my breasts are smaller and deflated a bit after nursing kids. Men don’t exactly celebrate these accomplishments in our society. Women pay lip service to it, but also don’t really find it sexy. We still judge everyone to those stupid standards. Actually I wouldn’t be into seeing my DH prance around with less clothes either. It ain’t sexy.

Wow. What a journey this post is. “It’s so unfair, also I will be just as unfair”.

NP- lol. I had the same reaction. Americans may be prudish but we’re also raised to be unforgiving AHs.

This is true. I feel much prettier, sexier, and more relaxed about my body in other countries. I always feel ugly when I come back to the States because I no longer have the body of a whip-thin 19 year old, which is basically the only acceptable body type in the US.

Well, first I’d ask you to point out where anyone said it was a “magical experience.” Then when you’re unable to do so, I’d wait a beat to let the hyperbole sink in, and then I’d simply say it’s about feeling the sun, breeze, and water on your body without anything in the way. IYKYK.

PP. We went to the far end of the beach, away from others, and enjoyed being free from swimsuits while in the ocean and on our spot on the beach. We didn’t stroll around naked. No one does that there. But we enjoyed the sun and water. Fun!

That's awesome - Glad it all worked out. Thanks for sharing back!

Ironically swimwear is more provocative than being topless or even naked. We prefer naked over topless, it’s more natural and less sexual.

I’ve gone topless plenty of times but always in the back of my mind is running into a coworker or nosy neighbors! I’m ok with friends being there. We are definitely not the swinging types!
