SLAC suggestions for FP male As and Bs, good rigor, 1450-1500

Why a small LAC? Open your parameters and you’ll have more exciting options.

These are all legit targets or moderately reachy schools.

I cannot imagine a full pay male with SATs north of 1450 having the least but of trouble getting into any of these schools ED.

Then you do not get out much.

Again let’s get real. Only 26 pct of Dickinson reported scores (ACT or SAT). The high end of the SAT range was 1413. A 1450 would make a student one of the highest scoring kids on campus. A school like Dickinson is desperate for full pay students and desperate for men. If a 1450+ full pay male applied ED with a reasonably strong transcript and no red flags, they would uncork the champagne.

Dickinson is test blind

Not anymore. They went back to test-optional as of this application cycle.

Interesting. But weird that they had 26% submitting scores while test blind.

What kind of school is heat and how do his grades generally match up/rank

Excellent public. Rigor is good, not great. Grades are good, not great. Setting aside fit, trying to understand what is realistic.

Lol this is classic. “Setting aside fit” means you only care about the ranking. Loser.

Starting the process of elimination by figuring out which of the most reputable schools are even a realistic possibility and then going from there to determine fit. Why spend time on whether Williams is a fit or not, knowing it’s not an option? How is this not rational? Why does this make me a loser?

I am not the PP and not calling you a loser. An alternative way to look at this, however, is find the school that is the best fit and then look for a safety, target, reach in that category. So, if Williams is the dream and totally out of reach, what is it about Williams that he liked (programs, size, location, etc.) and look for those characteristics in attainable schools.

Or, why not take a look at the most reputable schools you can realistically get into (whether as a reach or target or safety), and then from that list, figure out the ones you like best? Everyone is so obsessed with elevating "fit" over reputation that it's warping common sense. The reality is we are making a large investment in a credential, and while fit is very important, it's a bit amorphous, and from a practical and financial point of view, reputation matters. No one turns down Harvard for Boise State because of "fit." So it's kind of annoying when people are constantly like fit fit fit. (These same people of course will send their kid to a very highly ranked school and then just go on about how, ever so conveniently, it was just the perfect fit.)

He'll do well in life if he goes to Bucknell.

I posted just a bit ago. My comment was directed at the original list, not the subsequent suggestions. Don't think Dickinson didn't show up until some pages into this thread.

I think the bottom line is at the very reputable lacs, if you are unhooked you need almost perfect academics (high scores, really strong transcript) to have a shot. But imperfection starts to become ok as you get down the list into the 20-40 range.

It starts to become slightly possible at the 30-50 range, and ok below that.

I think this is pessimistic. My unhooked kid with a very strong transcript (4.0 uw, highest rigor) and strong ECs but no test scores got top merit from a LAC ranked in the 20s. ED2 reach is a top 15 LAC. Based on what I’ve seen at our school, near-perfection is needed only for the top 5 or so SLACs.
