Good riddance to him. Since 10/7 Jewish donors have been flexing and threatening donations to politicians and universities, America is not owned by a select few fund managers just because they have big money, I have the whole thing utterly distasteful and disgusting . Let your morals and actions talk for you, not your money.

Wow, PP. That you don't see how antisemitic *your* comment is is really disturbing. You're about a half step from Jewish space lasers.

Where was the antisemitism there? Dude is indeed a fund manager and maybe a university shouldn’t decide what’s right based on what wealthy donors dictate? Jewish publication recently had an article about how Qatar is “buying the Ivy League.” Is that anti-Arab?

You are complaining that monied Jewish interests are exercising an outsized influence on the American government. You even suggested that they "own" America. It's a miracle you didn't mention the Rothschilds by name. If you don't see how antisemitic that is, I suggest you read some history. Good lord.

Please explain how to criticize anything a rich Jewish person does without being antisemitic? Like it is possible?

For example: the US dropped on average SEVENTY TWO bombs per DAY in 2016, equalling 26,171 that year alone in total on Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan. 22,110 in 2015. And the death toll in the middle east from post 9/11 conflict is at least half a million civilians directly killed by US airstrikes or military and around 4.5m who died overall for adjacent reasons. Where was the widespread internal outrage then? Where were the giant protests on campus against Obama (who I voted for)?
There is objectively a far far far higher rate of outrage directed at Israel than there is for other scenarios with far higher death tolls, and anyone who claims racism is not at play is either lying to us or lying to themselves.

It’s the “Holy Land” which people disproportionately care about. People are more informed about Jews and Israel because the Holocaust was a European history thing that everyone knows about and everyone also knows about the subsequent creation of Israel. There are explanations for disproportionate interest that are not anti-Semitism.

Thanks for this. I have had GenZ tell me Israel is guilty of genocide, and they clearly have no idea what the definition of genocide is. Civilian deaths during wars are not genocide. They are awful and tragic, but that’s not genocide. And we have killed far, far more people post 9/11. Guess the YouTube history lessons don’t include that.

really dont think gen z are so fired up bc of concern for 'holy land'
they are fired up bc they are falling for the same trope that lead to the holocaust. Assumption that jews are rich and powerful and crushing the poor man.
I am NOT saying that no one should call for a ceasefire or have sympathy for the poor palestinians. We should. But so much of the rhetoric around occupation and apartheid and civilian deaths etc is outrage that you would NOT see directed at any given african country slaughtering a racial cohort in a neighboring african country en masse.

No one has to personally feel a personal connection right now to the Holy Land to unconsciously reflect the historical preconception with that region that three major world religions collectively having for like half the world’s population in adherents share.

I just don’t find this compelling. People don’t care about Africa… and that’s racist. People do care about Palestine… and that’s also racist. Um okay.

People are pretty fired up about Ukraine too. That was apparently also racist. Why don’t we care about Syria?! No one is apparently allowed to be outraged unless it’s evenly distributed among current events.

Yes all those poor Ivy League students concerned about crushing the poor man. I have read a few articles that talk about the decline of Jews at Ivy League schools. Where it was 25-40% depending on the school it is now 8-20%.
This is apparently a big issue with the same people who are yelling anti-semitism at anyone who express sympathy for the Palestinians. They want to increase Jewish presence back to its historic(late ‘60’s through 2000’s). This is a way to put pressure on the presidents of the schools to increase Jewish enrollment.

I think the worst thing about our Gen Z guest's rambling post is the contention that social media offers access to reliable "access to actual history within seconds". No wonder he/she believes "this conflict isn't complicated"!! Our society has clearly failed this whole generation's education.

I think the worst thing is that you actually didn’t understand the post. Gen Z isn’t getting their information from social media. The college students are reading up on history as it actually played out and making up their own minds. You tube videos showing actual video coverage of IDF soldiers mocking Palestinians isn’t ‘social media’. It’s actually evidence of what has been taking place in that region.

And to the PP, it’s so sad that instead of acknowledging the facts mentioned in the post, you resorted to a cheap attack on the usage of paragraphs. That actually makes you a flat out imbecile filled with hatred and contempt for the Palestinians. You just don’t want to acknowledge their humanity and are willing to keep your eyes and ears closed till you die.

You talk about YouTube.

I made the terrible mistake of watching the Hamas GoPro footage that they shared on social media.

I have seen Hamas behead innocent people with shovels.

I have seen them murder children.

I have seen piles and piles of mutilated young people

Go ahead and read the BBC article about the rape victims. None lived of course

All you Hamas supporters are vile people.

Huh. I would dearly like to know where one gets "history as it actually played out" and how anyone can be so sure You Tube videos show "actual evidence of what has been taking place." Because I took a lotta historiography classes in grad school and can tell you that's not how any source works.

I do commend you for learning about paragraphs, though. Now please work on critical thinking skills, because you, my young friend, are clearly the most useful of "useful idiots".

While you were at grad school taking historiography classes, did you learn how to write lot of instead of “lotta” and how actually that’s not the word you use when you are mentioning the many classes you took.

Go ahead and watch the videos coming out of Gaza of children covered in white phosphorus and babies left to die in hospitals. Two can play this game. In your view only one side deserves the sympathy. In my view any loss of innocent life is wrong and so far in this country, a Palestinian child has been murdered and three Palestinians boys were brutally shot at. So tell me are you not concerned about the anti Palestinians rhetoric that is causing people to commit such heinous crimes or does your humanity start and end with Israel and are you ONLY concerned with anti semitism?

Yup. I am super liberal and worked on Capitol Hill as a lawyer. I have prepped many witnesses. It was clear whoever represents these 3 elite universities on the Hill did not prep their respective University Presidents. They all seemed " too cool for school", elite ,and too lawyerly.
Our witness prep sessions used to be fierce on the Democratic side..called " wood-shedding". We trained witnesses how to answer difficult questions and how to be approachable and likeable when necessary. I am embarrassed as a professional woman as to how badly these women did. And, I have never been impressed with the " professorial bunch". .." Those who can..do...those who can't...teach.
Elise Steven I'm is a total hypocrite though. She never denounced Jan 6 and is a fat election denier like Uncle Orange Trump. She denied the election results. She never bothered to go to law school, but pretended to be one at the hearings. Galling.

This is OTT.

I am Jewish and we have spent years listening to Rs tell us that campus speech codes are for snowflakes and now when they want to weaponize anti-semitism all of a sudden they discover the limits of free speech on campus?

I don’t know what the answer is — a university deciding that they will act consistent with the first amendment in regulating speech may not be ideal but it’s hardly the return of the third reich.

Did you watch their testimonies? I’m not Jewish, but I found them very disturbing.

+1 I was embarrassed and frankly shocked that three women--well educated, supposedly savvy and bright academic leaders-- were clearly trying their best to avoid giving a direct response. It was a disgusting display of "dodge ball." If one were to substitute Black or any other minority group for Jewish, I have no doubt that they would have responded differently in a heartbeat.
