Because here there is one perpetrator that has killed WAY, WAY, more people than the other perpetrator. "You started it" doesn't allow you to crush your opponent with a ratio of 10:1 deaths. Especially as historically, "You started it" is actually the Israelis. I really don't think it's properly sunk in that Israel has killed so many more Palestinians since their nation's Independence than Hamas (or other) has killed Israelis. Recent numbers - From 2008 to 2023: about 5,500 Palestinian deaths to 260 Israelis. From Oct 7th, 2023, until today: about 16,000 Palestinian deaths to 1,600 Israelis. Ratio from this year: 10:1 1 in 200 Gazans have died. Do you want those odds? I didn't think so. Have Israelis ever faced those odds in the Middle East? Never. THAT IS GENOCIDE. Israel will claim that it merely wants to destroy Hamas. But what it's doing it destroying the Palestinian people. |
Seriously. How embarrassing for PP. |
The testimony by the college presidents was 1930's Germany bone chilling. |
Gen Z PP won't have the wisdom (or, apparently the education) to be embarrassed. You remember what it was like to be so sure you know everything, right? How many years did it take before you realized how little you actually know? We should totally raise the voting age, btw. Look who we're inviting to make decisions now ^^^ |
drinking? |
This is OTT. I am Jewish and we have spent years listening to Rs tell us that campus speech codes are for snowflakes and now when they want to weaponize anti-semitism all of a sudden they discover the limits of free speech on campus? I don’t know what the answer is — a university deciding that they will act consistent with the first amendment in regulating speech may not be ideal but it’s hardly the return of the third reich. |
I think the worst thing is that you actually didn’t understand the post. Gen Z isn’t getting their information from social media. The college students are reading up on history as it actually played out and making up their own minds. You tube videos showing actual video coverage of IDF soldiers mocking Palestinians isn’t ‘social media’. It’s actually evidence of what has been taking place in that region. And to the PP, it’s so sad that instead of acknowledging the facts mentioned in the post, you resorted to a cheap attack on the usage of paragraphs. That actually makes you a flat out imbecile filled with hatred and contempt for the Palestinians. You just don’t want to acknowledge their humanity and are willing to keep your eyes and ears closed till you die. |
Did you watch their testimonies? I’m not Jewish, but I found them very disturbing. |
Please try to stay on topic. I know it’s hard. Your comment is completely unrelated to the topic of double standards at elite American universities Unless your point is that double standards are good when they support your side and bad when they don’t. |
Huh. I would dearly like to know where one gets "history as it actually played out" and how anyone can be so sure You Tube videos show "actual evidence of what has been taking place." Because I took a lotta historiography classes in grad school and can tell you that's not how any source works. I do commend you for learning about paragraphs, though. Now please work on critical thinking skills, because you, my young friend, are clearly the most useful of "useful idiots". |
I have a classic movie recommendation for our Gen Z visitor: "Rashomon".
Watch it, please, before you swallow any media, social or otherwise, uncritically again: https://www.amazon.com/Rashomon-English-Subtitled-Toshiro-Mifune/dp/B004D3ICOG |
And if no one ever made you watch it in history class, or if you've never had to take a class specifically called a history class, then I just have no words... |
Why do you think I was saying Harvard could take anyone to court for speech? Did I say anything about jailing or fining anyone? Don’t put words in my mouth. But it’s interesting that you refuse to acknowledge any hate crimes against Jewish people in the US. I can see that you are ill-informed. There are clearly two sides to this conflict, and to dismiss either one out of hand is a sign of limited knowledge. |
I wasn’t the same poster and you’re dodging the question. If you don’t see how it’s not antisemitic, I suggest you go read some history. And then do some mental backflips to figure out how it’s not the same to gripe about Arab money in the Ivy League. Personally I’m not offended by anyone criticizing the outsized influence of donors. |
To be clear, Israel needs to stop. But to say anti semitism isn't factoring into the level of outrage is just false.
For example: the US dropped on average SEVENTY TWO bombs per DAY in 2016, equalling 26,171 that year alone in total on Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan. 22,110 in 2015. And the death toll in the middle east from post 9/11 conflict is at least half a million civilians directly killed by US airstrikes or military and around 4.5m who died overall for adjacent reasons. Where was the widespread internal outrage then? Where were the giant protests on campus against Obama (who I voted for)? There is objectively a far far far higher rate of outrage directed at Israel than there is for other scenarios with far higher death tolls, and anyone who claims racism is not at play is either lying to us or lying to themselves. |
