But this debacle and support for Hamas is going to have carry on effects. The number of early applicants to Harvard was already down by nearly 20 points this year. It'll be significantly more next year.

Jews don't feel welcome. Asians don't feel welcome. Unless you are a very well to do and privileged wokey wokey white, Harvard is probably not a great place. And the number of applications will reflect that

Somehow I think Harvard will survive and maintain its acceptance rate in the single digits.

They will, but look who is applying and who they accepting. Harvard graduates already have poor reputation in major companies. It will be going downhill in the next 10-15 years and Harvard diploma very soon will be like your online degree.

This would be great for meritocracy and leveling of inequality, but I wouldn't exactly hold my breath that it'll happen.

Harvard was never built on meritocracy - ever! She shouldn't resign. Everyone wants Campus Free Expression until something is said that they don't like.

Gay just requested to make changes to her prior citations ( or omissions of citations) after she was already allowed to do so previously. She is so stupid that she cannot even fix her mistake properly and needs another “opportunity “ to do so. Truly deprived person.

The true scandal is that she only has 11 published academic works to her credit. That wouldn't be enough to become an adjunct at most universities, much less President of ostensibly the leading U.S. university.

You don't know many school administrators do you?

She was a professor before she became an administrator. It still doesn't change the fact that her academic record is pretty pathetic, especially for a university as prestigious as Harvard.

You still don’t get it, do you?! She was not hired for her academic prowess. She was hired because she is a black female with some paltry level of experience.

They don’t care about the plagerism or the weak academic record, or the disastrous performance before the House committee. She is black and she is a woman. That is literally the requirement now for the job of president of Harvard.

Tough to swallow, I know, but once you fully accept this everything else makes sense.

If that PhD is so irrelevant for Harvard, why not to hire random black women from the Walmart who can do administrative job? Why the need for bogus academic work?

Now you’re catching on! The random woman from Walmart is more qualified to be the president of Harvard than is a white male with an impressive academic resume, in the eyes of their board. Guarantee that is how they think.

How can you be sure that in the history of Harvard U no mediocre white man was ever hired as president? Do you just assume they were all brilliant scholars with an impecable written record of published work?

No not at all. I’m sure in harvards 300 whatever year history, there have been some duds. The difference is, they would have been fired for this.

Oh, I get it. I just think it makes a mockery of academic achievement and the alleged meritocracy. I also found it interesting that at least one of the professors pushing back against the accusations, did so because of the source, not because of the critique, which is even worse for an academic institution allegedly focused on pursuing the truth.

Here's the quote, "“If it came from some other quarter, I might be granting it some credence,” he said of the accusations. “But not from these people.” - Charles Fried, a professor at Harvard Law School and a former solicitor general in the Reagan administration.

Of course it makes mockery, just as you say. But once again, They. Do. Not. Care.
The lefts goal is their agenda and full power. Things that get destroyed in pursuit of that - in this case, integrity and the reputation of Harvard - are irrelevant.

How can you be sure they would have been fired? Having worked with many mediocre (mostly white) men in my life, I can assure you they are not easily fired. Would these former presidents of Harvard have had their publications so closely scrutinized? I wonder.

It's an opportunistic pile on. Plagiarism might be a good enough pretext to get her out of there if the Harvard Corporation won't be persuaded by the handling of anti-semitism. This is basically an ideological warfare by another name.

So people that want her out as president want her out solely because of her comments during the congressional hearing? I don't know...I think that in addition to that, it's also an opportunity--since they already have peoples' attention--to take a swing at "diversity hires" and elite universities in general--two things that seem to really rile up Republicans.

I would think no one would want to be considered as a "diversity hire." Very demeaning.

It is. But Gay has become the poster child for the DEI industrial complex.

because every black doctor must be incompetent. F'ing racist idiot.

I told my family many years ago that I would never ever go to an AA doctor. I was called racist. Gay is the perfect example why my decision was correct back then and why it is even more important now.
Because your ideology blinds you to critical thinking, I'll spell it out for you. If a high percentage of black doctors are hired simply for being black, and a patient has no way of knowing which black doctors were hire for competence and which were hired for being black, determining the quality of a black doctor is simply impossible. This means choosing a black doctor amounts to a coin toss. Who in their right mind would trust their health to chance?

Well, black patients actually have much better outcomes when the physician is black. Does that meant that all white doctors are incompetent?

I love how Charles Fried— who is basically the intellectual father of the Reagan Revolution— is now part of “the left”. 🙄

And no, when Chris Rufo who is basically the equivalent of the Veritas project in terms of bad faith accusations says “I am going after Gay for plagiarism, watch me get her fired” and then digs up a book acknowledgement where she used a cliche to thank her adviser it is perfectly fine to consider the messenger and his motive as part of evaluating the charge.

What a ridiculous statement. No one has assumed anything of the sort. However, the truth must hurt that Harvard can't find a more highly qualified black female who i) has a stronger record of academic publishing and ii) didn't plagiarize the few academic works she did publish. Are you suggesting that this is too much of a burden to ask of this venerable institution? Demand better of Harvard and demand better of black (and all) academics.
