What was your favorite piece of clothing from the 1980's?

All the cute guys at my high school wore these CB ski shells. You had to have a CB jacket or shell!

Totally worshiped the Preppy Handbook.

A few of my monogram sweaters too!

Do you judge me if I still own my monogram sweaters? My mom saved them. I'm not at all sure what to do with them -- my kids did not want to wear them.

Gawd, yes -- these were ubiquitous at my college, worn backwards, often with pearls and Bean slippers. Years later, when my daughter was born, my roommate sent a Lanz toddler gown as a gift.

I CANNOT believe we wore stirrup pants.

Oh, actually I loved that over-sized sweater from The Limited -- it was like a shaker knit, right? I think mine was bright green. That was a great look and super comfy -- that is now actually pretty much back again. I think it pilled a lot though.
I had a drop shoulder cabled slightly oversized sweater from Liz Claiborne in a neutral tone and I just saw one EXACTLY like it for sale someplace trendy. I'm wearing it in my 1987 or 1988 school photo with a lot of brown/bronze/green eye shadow and my sun-in hair.

PS How did The Limited fold and Express survive? I remember Express as originally being the down-market Limited, but it somehow got kind of expensive.

For those who remember the Preppy Handbook as your style Bible, you might remember the movie Ordinary People -- proof positive that preppy love spread well beyond New England and that it dominated public HS fashion in affluent communities. Here's the trailer:

I'm dying to know where you went and what year. I really don't remember that as a thing for college students! Maybe you were early 80s, back in the gunnesax day? I had floral VS cotton PJs to take to college -- they had a little lace trim at the neck -- those were really popular.

My stepsister opened her Christmas gift from her grandmother, held up the Lanz flannel nightgown, and said, "She obviously doesn't know what my life is like."

I'm old, so I was riding event horses in the 80s (and still am!) I miss the rugby shirts with the custom helmet covers to match. I also miss the skin tight black leather pants & jacket that I wore with my Joan Jett haircut.

I don't judge you one little bit! I had a name necklace, very elegant, or so I thought. Small, gold, and understated, with my name in cursive. As if I'd forget my name! I occasionally look for one but none is just right.

I'd Poshmark those sweaters if you don't want them, because someone else will.

My brother found his CB jacket (in salmon and royal blue) at my parents house. He could wear it onto any college campus and look totally current.

I loved this outfit. So comfy and really stirrup pants were an early precursor to leggings.

Another, it's all coming back to me now, Liz Claiborne purse wallet and mathching key chain. I'm sure there's more I omitted.

I confused this with another movie from the same time-period - "Like Normal People". Boy has that movie not aged well.
